Rockies reliever Jason Grilli worked 3 1/3 innings and threw 44 pitches Monday for Italy in a 6-2 win over Canada in a World Baseball Classic game in Toronto that eliminated the Canadian team. Italy will play Venezuela on Tuesday, a game Grilli is a good bet to watch after his effort Monday and a game where the loser will be eliminated and the winner advances to a second-round pool this weekend in Miami.

Reliever Manuel Corpas is expected back in Rockies camp by the middle of the week after Panama’s elimination Sunday in the WBC. In its two defeats, Panama was outscored 16-0. Corpas threw two innings and 30 pitches Sunday while giving up one run on Nelson Cruz’s homer in a 9-0 loss to the Dominican Republic. Corpas struck out two and walked one. Corpas worked two innings seven times last season, the last on Aug. 17.

Ubaldo Jimenez is scheduled to start Tuesday for the Dominican Republic against the Netherlands in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The loser is eliminated, while the winner plays Puerto Rico on Wednesday in a game that will determine which team advances this weekend to second-round action in Miami. The Netherlands upset the Dominican 3-2 on Saturday.
