Turning point: RHP Greg Reynolds allowed three runs in four innings — all in the third when Eugenio Velez tripled home two runs, and Fred Lewis drove in Velez with another triple.

Good day: RHP Josh Fogg, making a case for himself in the bullpen if not the rotation, worked two shutout innings. . . . C Yorvit Torrealba was 2-for-3, raising his average to .348.

Bad day: INF Chris Nelson was charged with two errors. . . . RHP Steven Register allowed four runs and while only one was earned he did give up six hits in the 10th inning.

FYI: RHP Jason Marquis starts Saturday against Seattle at Hi Corbett Field. . . . LHP Greg Smith, sidelined by the flu, is now scheduled to pitch in a minor league game on Wednesday, the one spring day off for the big-league team.

I have to imagine that Register’s psyche is just about shot at this point.

Tracy – is there point that the showing of the 4/5 candidates is so questionable that we consider sniffing the waiver wire in a couple of weeks?

as always – thanks for the coverage

Marc, I’m sure there is some looking around going on, but don’t expect it to be too serious. Right now most teams are looking for those final starters. I would be surprised if Morales isn’t part of the Rockies rotation when the season starts. The others all have at least five more appearances to make a case.
