Veteran infielder Tomas Perez made his Cactus League debut with the Rockies today, going hitless in two at-bats with one RBI one week after joining the organization.

Perez, 35, signed a minor league contract with the Rockies on March 13, the same day as veteran left-handed pitcher Damian Moss. Perez went 2-for-10 in eight games last year with the Astros and in 79 games at their Triple-A Round Rock affiliate hit .275 with one homer and 25 RBI. The switch-hitting Perez has also played in the big leagues with the Blue Jays, Phillies and Rays and has a .240 lifetime average with 24 homers and 180 RBI in 789 games in the majors.

Perez can play every infield position and could provide organizational depth if he makes the Triple-A Colorado Springs roster. The Sky Sox figure to have Jonathan Herrera as their regular shortstop and Eric Young Jr. starting at second base.

Christian Colonel, Luis Gonzalez , Kenny Perez and Mark Bellhorn can play the corner infield positions. Kenny Perez can also play the middle infield positions, and Bellhorn, another major league veteran seeking a position with the Sky Sox, is a second baseman by trade.
