Recap: Rockies 7, Brewers 1

Turning point : Todd Helton and Ryan Spilborghs hit solo homers in the three-run third that gave the Rockies a 4-0 lead.
Big day: Ubaldo Jimenez worked a spring-high six innings, allowing two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Jimenez got 12 outs on ground balls and four on balls hit in the air.
Bad day: Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo, who like Jimenez is lined up as his team’s No. 2 starter, allowed six hits, three of them homers, and six runs in five innings with two walks and two strikeouts.
FYI: Huston Street gave up a run in the ninth on a single and two doubles, ending his streak of four hitless outings covering five scoreless innings . . . Helton’s homer was his fourth of the spring, and he went 2-for-3 to raise his average to .348 (8-for-23) . . . Left-hander Alan Embree made his seventh straight one-inning scoreless appearance and has allowed two hits in that span, including one today . . . Josh Fogg, pitching in a Cactus League game for the first time since March 13, worked one hitless inning . . . The six-run victory margin was the Rockies’ second largest of the spring. They beat the A’s 14-7 on March 10.

That was the first time I’ve seen Helton live this year. He looked very good.
Dave, not only has Todd looked good, but he is feeling good. So far, the numbness has been missing from his leg, which makes it easier to hit.
Tracy,
While I think it’s great to see the team progressing, it makes me think more and more that they need to move up to the Phoenix area. Teams are just not bringing their entire line-up to Tucson. It is not just on a sometimes basis but every team leaves the majority of the line-up up north.
How are the Rockies really going to guage progress if they only face the regulars when they travel north to play on the road.
So glad I found this site. Just what a baseball and Rockies junkie needed.
To Tracy: I enjoy reading you in Baseball America. I was pleasantly surprised to find you here. Glad to hear that Houston Street & Alan Embree are doing well. I heard about this site from an online story about job cuts at the Houston Chronicle.
Jacob, glad you found the site, but wish it had been in a better manner. The newspaper business is facing some challenges right now and a lot of good people are being caught up in the undertow.
