No Closer by Committee
When the season starts, Rockies manager Clint Hurdle will have a closer. It will be either Manny Corpas or Huston Street.
When spring training opened Hurdle said he hoped to have that decision made by the final week of the exhibition season.
Now, he is not so sure. Street, after struggling early, has made a strong rebound and is now making it a battle with Corpas.
Street worked a shutout inning in the 8-6 loss to the Dodgers at Hi Corbett Field on Thursday. He has allowed only one run and four hits in seven innings his last six appearances.
Corpas, meanwhile, has a 1.29 ERA in seven spring appearances.
The guess is Corpas would have an edge if all things are equal because he has a track record with the Rockies. He was their closer in the final three months of 2007, when the Rockies rallied to claim the first NL pennant in franchise history.

Tracy, as a Rockies fan since the beginning, I’d like to thank you for your excellent coverage of the team throughout its history. Hopefully Manny gets the tilt back on his slider this year, and the velocity & tilt on his fastball.
