A look at the position battles the Rockies have this spring:

Closer

Both players will make the roster, as either the closer of setup man.

1. Manny Corpas, right-hander | 0-0, 1.13 in eight games.
Last game: Friday, 8-3 win against Mariners at Peorida. Worked scoreless ninth, giving up one hit.

2. Huston Street, right-hander | 0-0, 5.79 in 10 games.
Last game: Saturday, 10-6 victory against Cubs at Hi Corbett Field. Street worked a perfect ninth, striking out one. He has allowed one run in eight innings his last seven appearances.

Bullpen

Out of options: Ryan Speier and Juan Morillo.

Signed to minor-league contract: Matt Belisle and Josh Fogg (can opt out of minor-league assignment only if they get a job on an Opening Day roster)

1. Ryan Speier, right-hander | 1-0, 2.00 in eight games.
Last game: Thursday, 8-6 loss against Dodgers at Hi Corbett Field. Allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning, leaving him unscored upon in seven of eight big-league games this spring.

2. Juan Morillo, right-hander | 0-0, 3.55 in 12 games
Last game: Friday, 8-3 win against Mariners at Peoria. Worked a shutout inning, walking one, rebounding form giving up two runs in two of three previous appearances.

3. Matt Belisle, right-hander | 0-0, 1.23, 1 save, six games.
Last game: Wednesday, 18-11 loss against Angels at Tempe. Worked 1 1/3 hitless innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

4. Josh Fogg, right-hander | 0-0, 6.43, four games
Last game: Thursday, 8-6 loss against Dodgers at Hi Corbett Field. Allowed three runs on five this and a walk in two innings.

Fifth Starter

Options remaining: Franklin Morales and Greg Smith.

Signed to minor-league contract: Matt Belisle and Josh Fogg (can opt out of minor-league assignment only if they get a job on an Opening Day roster)

1. Franklin Morales, left-hander | 2-2, 4.50 in five games.
Last game: Tuesday, minor league game at Tucson. Started and in five innings allowed 10 runs, all earned, on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

2. Greg Smith, left-hander | 0-2, 9.00 in three games
Last game: Tuesday , 9-8 loss to Cubs at Mesa. Allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits, including a Milton Bradley home run, and two walks in three innings in his first big-league appearance since March 3.

3. Matt Belisle, right-hander | 0-0, 1.23, 1 save, six games.
Last game: Wednesday, 18-11 loss against Angels at Tempe. Worked 1 1/3 hitless innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

4. Josh Fogg, right-hander |0-0, 6.43, four games
Last game: Monday, 7-1 victory against Brewers at Hi Corbett Field. Worked a scoreless inning after giving up five runs in four innings of a minor-league game last Wednesday.

Left Field

Options remaining: Seth Smith, Matt Murton, Ian Stewart and Carlos Gonzalez.

Last game: Saturday, 10-6 victory against Cubs at Hi Corbett Field. Grounded out as a pinch-hitter in the eighth.

3. Ian Stewart, left-handed hitter |.304, four doubles, two triples, three home runs and 11 RBI in 18 games.
Last game: Saturday, 10-6 victory against Cubs at Hi Corbett Field. Started in right field and was 1-for-2 with a double, run scored and stolen base.

Centerfield

    I think Spilly has earned the right to start in center. Give him the opportunity to have consistent starts and at bats.

    Fowler’s gotta make the team.
    And they’ve gotta trade Baker, let Stewart play some 2B.

    Craig, Spilly would seem to be a lock and will play probably as much if not more than any other outfielder. With the steady evolution of Fowler he may move for into left field and right field but that is more a statement of what Fowler will show he is able to do than any reflection on Spilborghs.
