Karl, both Flores's splits <a href="http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi" rel="nofollow">this year at the Springs</a> and <a href="http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=florera01&year=Career&t=p" rel="nofollow">in his major league career</a> don't show any great lefty-killing ability.

Jack just posted about the move in the "Baylor has Pneumonia" post and said Flores's Sky Sox ERA ballooned in his last outing where he gave up 4 earned in 1 IP.

It's a pretty underwhelming change.

I would have to guess if Morales gets healthy, he takes the 5th spot over Hamel. If he's inconsistent, he'd probably go back to CSprings to work on that.

According to Troy Renck from the Denver Post this morning, Rusch is out and Flores is the replacement.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/rockies/2009/05/14/rusch-appears-on-the-way-out-with-rocks/

Maybe Flores will do better in the majors, but his numbers in the Springs were not overly impressive on first glance. Anyone been following the Sky Sox to see if its just a couple of outings? Any better against lefty's?

Will this mean Hammel will be the long man or will they want Morales for that when he is healthy?

<q cite="Derreck">Everytime you think the Rox are getting some momentum, they pull off a game like last night.</q>

And now, another loss to make 3-5 homestand.

<q>Atkins is just killing this lineup right now.</q>

Now he's had a bad game with the glove:

I didn't see today's game, but Atkins made two errors in the first inning (one allowing a runner a base, the other allowing a runner). It led to a couple unearned runs, I think.

Just a quick note too, I see Hirsh got rocked yesterday too. Colorado Springs gave up 15 runs in a 16-15 win and then 18 runs in a loss. Back to back days. That's got to hurt the ERA.

Everytime you think the Rox are getting some momentum, they pull off a game like last night. That was really frustrating to watch. Good to see Iannetta have a good night.
I personally don't have a problem with the bullpen management by Hurdle but I do have a problem with Spilly batting 4th. He got a couple hits last night but has been struggling at the plate. Leave Hawpe in the 4 spot against lefties or righties. I don't care what Hawpe's career numbers are against lefties, leave him there. Spilly doesn't belong there no matter what. I would rather him bat 3rd and Helton 4th than the other way around.
Atkins is just killing this lineup right now. He hit that double play ball pretty hard last night but continues to roll over weakly to the left side. What do you do with a guy that can't hit but now you won't be able to trade?

Win 1, lose 1. Win 2, lose 3. This is the epitome of mediocrity. Hope Tulo is okay as I haven't heard anything yet on his elbow/arm. They are winning just barely enough to have Clint keep his job, but the fact is they should be dominating at home more than they are. If they can't win more home games, then it's a long season. I keep hoping things turn around soon, but I am not optimistic.

Everything for the 3-6 hitters was either through a hole last night or was hit hard. Marquis gave up 9 hits to those guys alone I think. It was just one of those nights. As a fan in the stands last night it was frustrating to watch. Sure it was interesting to see the 5 runs in the ninth, but it was not a 4th of July comeback. It was a totally different game. Just one game thankfully and while not a huge Rusch fan, he may have saved the team over the next two weeks of straight play now.

Did you guys read the article?

Listen, the game got close at the end, but it was over when Marquis gave up all of those runs. The bullpen management changes on the other side as well when the leads get big. Sure, the Rockies scored runs and made it somewhat close, but if it was close earlier, the Astros are not running Alberto Arias and Geoff Geary out there.

That said, you would like to see Rusch perform better, but the loss in no way on him or Hurdle, frankly.
