–The Rockies improved to 3-5 in series openers on the road, after going 0-5 to begin the season. The other wins were 3-1 at Pittsburgh on Friday and 9-6 at San Diego on May 4.
–Todd Helton, back in the lineup after getting a day off Sunday, remained one hit shy of 2,000 in his career. Helton went 0-for-4, driving in a run in the sixth on a fielder’s choice and reaching base on an error in the ninth. He lined a ball at shortstop Yunel Escobar, who was charged with an error on a ball that took an in-between hop and never touched his glove. Helton’s six-game hitting streak ended, and it was the second time in his past 19 games he has gone hitless.
–Closer Huston Street, who has 99 career saves, retired the side in order in the ninth on seven pitches in a non-save situation. Street has made 10 consecutive scoreless appearances covering nine innings. During that stretch, he has allowed three hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
–Jason Marquis has pitched at least seven innings in five of his eight starts. He has five of the Rockies’ 15 wins, and the club is 5-3 in his starts.
–Brad Hawpe had at least one RBI in seven consecutive games, a streak that ended when he went 0-for-4 and hitless in one at-bat with runners in scoring position when he flied to left with no out in the ninth and runners on first and second. Hawpe is 15-for-31 this season with runners in scoring position.
–Chris Iannetta began the season 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position but has seven hits in his past 12 at-bats in such situations.
–Garrett Atkins, who has been benched in favor of Ian Stewart at third base, made his second pinch hitting appearance and fouled out to catcher Brian McCann to end the ninth with runners on first and third. Atkins is hitting .194 and is 11-for-44 with runners in scoring position. In his other appearance as a pinch hitter, Atkins walked Saturday at Pittsburgh.
–The Rockies have failed to homer in consecutive games for the first time this season.
