Todd Helton became the 255th player all-time to reach 2,000 hits just the fourth active player to reach that milestone with one team. The others are Derek Jeter, who entered Tuesday with 2,577 hits with the Yankees, Garrett Anderson, who had 2,368 hits with the Angels but now plays for the Braves, and Chipper Jones, who entered Tuesday with 2,310 hits for the Braves.

Troy Tulowitzki, who drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third, is 2-for-27 with runners in scoring position and hitless in his past 24 at-bats in such situations.

Joel Peralta made his Rockies debut and gave up three hits and two runs in two innings. He gave up two singles in the seventh but got Kelly Johnson to fly out, stranding runners on first and third. In the eighth, Peralta hit two batters and gave up a two-out, two-run double to Casey Kotchman. Peralta threw 46 pitches in two innings.

Brad Hawpe went 0-for-4, giving him consecutive hitless games for the second time this season and first since April 7-8.

Ian Stewart went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, dropping his average to .189. Stewart has eight hits in his past 66 at-bats and five hits in his past 37 at-bats with 14 strikeouts.

Garrett Atkins made his third pinch hitting appearance and struck out to end the seventh. He’s 0-for-2 with a walk as a pinch hitter. Atkins has started once in the past four games and that was at first base Sunday in Pittsburgh when Helton was rested.

–The Rockies have won back-to-back games three times this season _ April 26-27, May 10-12 and April 7-10 when they won a season-high three straight games.

Dexter Fowler walked twice, something he had done once before this season on April 27 against the Padres.

I m a big fan of Stewat but you might as well put Atkins back at third Ian is not hitting at all maybe worse than Atkins. Atkins has a track record of hitting.

    Very cool about Todds hit!!!!!!!!!!!

With this year being so bad would Fowler be better of in Colorado Springs this year????

    Trey,
I think much the opposite on Fowler. He and stewart need to get as many big league at-bats as possible. if they are the future then we need to develop for the future. They also should maybe bring up eric young jr and carlos gonzalez to get them big league experience. Everyone keeps saying they are ready than let them play. I would rather lose with players that will build our foundation for the future than lose with players holding on the the last rung of big league careers.

Stewart is struggling at the plate but there is no way he is hitting worse than Atkins. Stewart at least has provided some pop when he plays. Also, Stewarts defense is far better than Atkins. And I agree, this team isn’t going anywhere so let the kids play and go through their rough stretches and hopefully that will pay off later.
