Buchholz To Face Hitters

May 26, 2009 | 7:21 pm
By Jack Etkin

Reliever Taylor Buchholz is scheduled to throw a simulated game Saturday, which will be the first time he has pitched to a hitter since he made his lone Cactus League appearance Feb. 26.

Buchholz will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, which he said would be about 20-25 pitches, down from his 30-pitch bullpen session Sunday in Detroit.

Buchholz is recovering from a ligament strain in his right elbow. He is on the 60-day disabled list, and while he’s eligible to return June 4, Buchholz essentially will be starting spring training again when he goes out on a rehab assignment, which could last up to 30 days.
