Cole And Gideon Move Up
Stu Cole will take over as manager at Triple-A Colorado Springs, moving up from Double-A Tulsa. And roving field coordinator Ron Gideon will replace Cole as the Tulsa manager.
The changes were made in the wake of Clint Hurdle’s firing as the Rockies manager. Tom Runnells, who had been managing at Colorado Springs, joined the big league staff as the bench coach for Jim Tracy, who held that job but became in the Rockies’ interim manager.
Cole, 43, is in his 14th season in the Rockies’ organization and his ninth as a manager. He was in his fourth season as the Tulsa manager, and the Drillers, after an 8-11 start, were 23-22 and in second place, four games behind in the North Division of the Texas League.
Gideon, 45, is also in his 14th season in the Rockies’ organization and his fourth as the roving field coordinator. Gideon managed Double-A Carolina in 2000 and 2001, when the Rockies had their Double-A affiliate in Zebulon, N.C., prior to moving to Tulsa in 2003.

Now, if they’ll give Apodaca his walking papers after this weekend’s series, then they’ll have made a real improvement.
Hey Jack, I read on Ken Rosenthal’s column on FoxSports.com yesterday that O’Dowd had been talking to Rick Peterson about taking over as pitching coach. Is there anything to that rumor?
Will, Jack isn’t on line today but the problem with Peterson for any team is he has a lucrative deal with the people doing the movie on Moneyball and is not available until after Aug. 1.
Thanks, Tracy. I read Rosenthal’s column yesterday, and that caught my eye. Thanks for clearing it up.
