Wtih Bob Melvin of Arizona and Clint Hurdle of the Rockies having been fired, Manny Acta of Washington is not on the list of endangered managers.
San Diego bench coach Ted Simmons leads the available managerial candidates.

Tracy, if the New York Mets don’t make the playoffs for a third straight year in 2009, this being Jerry Manuel’s second year, could you see Manuel being booted for 2010–and replaced by Clint Hurdle?
I heard around All-Star time last year that some New York baseball people like Hurdle.
What about Terry Pendleton? He was a winning player, leader, clutch performer who led the brave renaissance and has been in the organization thru all the winning?
What about Hurdle winding up in a place like Chicago as a hitting coach (if the Cubs offense falters further this year) next year and then taking over for Lou after that? Just think he might do well in that market when/if Lou retires?
I think Clint’s next job will be as a hitting coach and not a manager.
I would be very suprised to see Hurdle as the Mets manager. I think if the Mets were to make a change it would be for a higher profile name and I don’t think Clint’s record as a manager would impress New York’s fans.
Tracy,
Did Clint accept the job that the Rockies offered him or did he go elsewhere? Thanks!
That decision most likely won’t be made for a couple of months. Right now Clint is just getting away from things. No sense making a decision like that at a time that has to have some emotional ups and downs.
