Rockies Could Be Scottsdale Bound

Scottsdale officials are supporing efforts of neighboring Indian reservation to build a spring complex for the Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks.

While I understand the reasoning behind a move to the Phoenix area, it’s still too bad. I went to school in Tucson and loved having the Rockies so close to campus. Being in Tucson in their own stadium allowed them to be unique. It’s a shame it isn’t feasible for them to stay. It’s a loss for both Tucson and the Rockies, not to mention UA students who won’t have cheap spring training baseball so close anymore.
It’s totally understandable (having just 2 clubs train in Tucson has become untenable), but still sad. Tucson still has that great relaxed vibe, the way spring training used to be (I used to go to Florida when the teams there were all spread out, from Fort Lauderdale to Sarasota). Phoenix just isn’t the same …
