Recap: Rockies 10, Astros 3

Turning point: After Ryan Spilborghs doubled, Clint Barmes tripled and Todd Helton singled to start the third inning and give the Rockies a 2-0 lead, Garrett Atkins ended a home run drought and capped a team cycle with a two-run home run, his first homer since April 25.
At the plate: Every Rockies starter had at least one base hit and the first six batters in the lineup drove in at least one run . . . Ryan Spilborghs was 2-for-4, ending an 0-for-9 drought . . . Clint Barmes was 2-for-4 with his third triple of the season . . . Todd Helton was 2-for-4 with an RBI . . . Matt Murton, the last starter to get a base hit, was 1-for-5 . . . Brad Hawpe homered in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to six games . . . Garrett Atkins was 2-for-4, with two home runs and 3 RBI. It was Atkins’ first multi-hit game since April 27, when he was 3-for-5 against the Padres . . . Ian Stewart was 3-for-5, his first three-hit game of the season . . . Edwin Bellorin singled in the eighth inning for his second major-league hit . . . Miguel Tejada’s 17-game hitting streak was snapped with an 0-for-5 night.
On the mound: Jason Hammel (2-3) matched the longest outing of his career, going seven innings and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks. Hammel pitched seven innings on April 12, 2008, with Tampa Bay . . . Jason Grilli allowed a run in his fifth consecutive appearance. He gave up one run on two hits and a walk in one inning . . . Alan Embree notched his third consecutive scoreless outing . . . Wandy Rodriguez (5-5) lasted five innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and two walks. Rodriguez, who was 5-2 with a 1.83 after his start on May 20, has lost his past three starts.
Numbers Game: 2 career starts for Rockies catcher Edwin Bellorin, who started for the first time since his major-league debut on Aug. 7, 2007. Bellorin, however, did not finish his first game after injuring himself running out a double-play groundball in his first major-league at-bat.

Atkins did WHAT?!?!?!?!?!!!
good for him. Hope he can turn things around now…..
He ripped ‘em, too. Not cheap shots.
And Stewart had 3 non-HR hits.
Hope this isn’t another tease but rather the final exorcism of Holiday’s ghost from the Rockies collective psyche. Maybe it’s finally sunk in that Big Daddy is gone, and now they have to man up. Even more surprising than Atkin’s bombs was watching Stewart actually take the bat off his shoulder and waste a couple of pitches ala Todd Helton. Go Rockies!
Good to see the Rox bats have a good night. They were due. Stewart also didn’t strike out so that was good to see. I still think he just needs to play, hopefully they can keep him in the lineup.
