Recap: Rockies 6, Mariners 4
Turning point:
The Rockies, who trailed 3-0 in the third, scored two runs in the sixth to go ahead 5-4. A slug bunt by Ubaldo Jimenez scored one run and moved Ian Stewart to third, and he scored on a suicide squeeze by Dexter Fowler. The Rockies added a run in the seventh without benefit of a hit when Troy Tulowitzki walked with one out, stole second as Stewart struck out and continued to third on catcher Rob Johnson’s throwing error and scored on Miguel Batista’s wild pitch.
At the plate:
Tulowitzki led off the fourth with a homer, went 1-for-2 with two walks and scored three runs. …Todd Helton went 1-for-4 with a two-out RBI single in the third. …In addition to his run-scoring slug bunt past drawn-in first baseman Russell Branyan, Jimenez sacrificed twice. Chris Iannetta, who walked to open the third, moved up on Jimenez’s second sacrifice and scored on Helton’s single. …Branyan homered in the first, his 15th of the season. …Adrian Beltre’s double off the wall in left-center drove in two runs with one out in the third. …Johnson went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring double in the fourth after Yuniesky Betancourt led off with a single.
On the mound:
Jimenez threw the second complete game of his career. He and gave up eight hits but allowed two singles, one of which left the infield, after the fourth inning and no hits after Betancourt’s infield single in the sixth. Jimenez threw a career-high 127 pitches, 82 for strikes. …Jarrod Washburn allowed six hits and five runs, four earned, in six innings.
Numbers game:
6 hits and two RBI this season for Jimenez, who entered 2009 with six hits and no RBI in his career.
