Triumphant Return For Roe

Chaz Roe returned from a long layoff, stepped into a pennant race and helped Double-A Tulsa take over first place Friday in the North Division of the Texas League.

A 1-0 win at Arkansas enabled the Drillers, who have won seven of their past eight games, to take a one-game lead with four games left in the first half.

Roe, who last pitched May 7, had been sidelined with a strained left oblique. He worked five scoreless innings and allowed three hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Roe threw 43 of 66 pitches for strikes while improving to 2-0 and lowering his ERA to 2.97 in six starts.

Roe, 22, returned to Tulsa this season after going 5-4 with a 4.27 ERA in 16 starts there last year.

Thanks for covering the farm teams. I enjoy reading about the young players coming up in the system.

How is Christian Friedrich doing at Modesto? Do you expect that he will be promoted to Tulsa before the season is over?
