Murton Sets Colorado Springs Record

With a run-scoring double on his first at-bat Sunday, Triple-A Colorado Springs outfielder Matt Murton wasted no time extending his hitting streak to a club record 29 consecutive games.
Murton was tied with Trenidad Hubbard, the Rockies roving outfield and baserunning coordinator, who hit safely in 28 straight games for the Sky Sox in 1995.
Murton hit safely in 13 consecutive games before being promoted to the Rockies on April 29. He was optioned to the Sky Sox on June 5 and upon returning, has hit safely in 16 straight games.
Murton went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI on Sunday. He’s hitting .414 (55-for-133) for the Sky Sox with nine homers and 38 RBI in 34 games, a .470 on-base percentage and .707 slugging percentage.
The Rockies acquired Murton from the A’s on Feb. 4 for minor league infielder Corey Wimberly.

Congratulations Matt!
Jack- What is the minor league record for consecutive games with a hit?
Always a nice problem to have this much depth, and hopefully the team keeps winning so it stays a good problem to have. Congrats to him. I found this link on wikipedia for the hitting streak, had no idea that it was another Joe, but check out who is #2

Tracy,
When do the Rockies go from youth developing mode (Cargo) to best team/ playoff mode (Spilly/Murton.) I really like Cargo and hope he starts hitting more and grows into a star, however, it seems to be getting harder and harder to keep Spilly, and Smith on the bench and Murton in AAA. Maybe it is time to deal Spilly? Things are never easy in a front office, I don’t know what I would do.
Thanks Karl
