Second baseman Eric Young, Jr., and right-handed pitcher Jhouyls Chacin will represent the Rockies organization in the Futures Game.

The game will be played July 12 at Busch Stadium, two days prior to the major league All-Star Game. The Futures Games features prospects from all 30 major-league organizations. It splits the playes into a team of United States prospects and foreign prospects.

Young, who is with Triple-A Colorado Springs, will be on the USA team. Chacin, a native of Venezuela, will be on the World team.

The game will start at noon MDT and will be televised on ESPN 2. It will be broadcast on XM radio.

I am looking forward to seeing Young and Chacin in Rockies uniforms in the near future (September?).

Young creates an interesting cononundrum because I think that Barmes has been an asset to the team at second base, both in terms of hitting and fielding, and I don’t see Young playing for the Rockies anywhere except second base (we have plenty of outfielders).

Has Young’s fielding improved to the point that he won’t be a liability defensively? When does Barmes become a free agent and perhaps too expensive for the Rockies to keep, given that they would have alternatives?

Barmes would be FA-eligible after the 2011 season, assuming he stays on the active roster/ML DL the entire time.

This off-season will be his 2nd season of arb-eligibility, so if he retains his starting job and production, he’ll be in for a raise. Not sure to what…to $3-4 million?

The team’s decision on him will be interesting. If Hurdle didn’t think Barmes should be a starter all those years, presumably O’Dowd didn’t either. OTOH, O’Dowd didn’t pick up another 2B for this year, so he must have assumed Barmes, Stewart and Baker could handle it for a year.

Chacin’s not on the 40-man roster, which could affect the likelihood of a Sept callup. Though who knows how much the roster will change between now and then. I’m not sure when he was signed, but they might have to add him this off-season anyway.

Tracy or Jack – Have you guys heard anything about Freidrich’s elbow? I thought he was getting an MRI this week but I haven’t seen anything since. Thanks.

What are the odds that this is the last start for DLR? Eaton is 3-0 with an ERA under 1 in the Springs, and Morales looks better. Can’t afford to leave him in the rotation for long.

  • Mike said:

If DLR keeps stinking it up, I could see them bringing up Morales. But Eaton will make you beg for DLR or Jamey Wright, or even Denny Neagle.

  • Mike said:

    Ok, not Denny Neagle.
