Friedrich Has Elbow Soreness, Nothing Worse

An MRI exam confirmed that high Class A Modesto left-hander Christian Friedrich has inflammation in his left elbow but detected no structural damage.

He last started June 10 and is expected to make his next start in about two weeks. Friedrich played catch at a distance of 90 feet Thursday and is scheduled to do the same thing today. He’ll have to gradually increase the distance and work up to throwing bullpen sessions and facing hitters.

The Rockies are being understandably cautious with Friedrich, their first-round pick in 2008 and the 25th player taken overall. Friedrich is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in three starts for Modesto after beginning the season at low Class A Asheville and going 3-3 with a 2.18 ERA in eight starts.

Wow, you guys ask, Jack, Tracy and Steve deliver!

That’s good news that there’s no structural damage.

Is there anything the Rockies are looking at changing as far as pitcher usage or training with these young pitchers? Seems like the Rockies have taken some hits with young pitchers recently.
