Corpas Playing Catch

Right-handed reliever Manuel Corpas, on the disabled list because of right elbow inflammation, has been playing catch. Corpas is bothered by a loose bone chip in his elbow. If the chip does not lodge in the joint he could be activated and finish the season before minor surgery to remove the chip.

“He’s not at the point of a bullpen session yet, but he is feeling okay which is a positive,” said manager Jim Tracy. “We have our fingers crossed with him. Eventually we will have to stress him a little and see how (the elbow) reacts to that.”

    Tracy,

Do you know the status of Speier? Last I checked he was pitching in the minors, but I haven’t tracked it that closely. Who are the next two pitchers to go out if/when Corpas and Speier are ready? Rincon, I would guess and then Embree? Big chunk of salary to eat. Daley? Thanks.

Their commitment to Embree is just $2.25M ($2M plus 0.25 buyout if they don’t pick up his 2010 option), so I hope that isn’t what would hold them back if they decide he’s finished.
