Rockies bring back Torrealba

The Colorado Rockies announced Wednesday they had reinstated catcher Yorvit Torrealba from the restricted list and designated Paul Phillips for assignment. Torrealba was placed on the restricted list June 2 when his son was kidnapped in Venezuela.

Torrealba batted .267 (4-for-15) with one RBI in a four-game stint at Colorado Springs.

Phillips, who hit .310 (13-for-42) with one home run and seven RBI in 13 games with the Rockies, was 0-for-2 in Wednesday’s games against the Dodgers. In the 12 games Phillips started, the Rockies went 8-4. The Rockies pitchers had a 4.02 ERA when Phillips was behind the plate.

Phillips, who joined the Rockies on May 25 when Chris Iannetta (strained right hamstring) went on the disabled list, was 0-for-14 in opponents’ caught stealing, a streak that ended Wednesday when he threw out Juan Pierre trying to steal second in the sixth inning. That caught stealing also ended a 0-for-25 streak by Rockies catchers that began June 2.

that is a shame for Phillips
he played very well while he was up
I hope he gets another shot in the majors

I hope he clears waivers, and accepts his assignment, and stays in the Rockies organization. He’s a quality back up.

I think the Rockies made the right call on this one. Getting rid of Q and having three catchers would not have had made sense. Hopefully he clears waivers and ends up back in the Springs.
