Corpas Making Progress

Reliever Manuel Corpas played catch and long toss out beyond 120 feet Friday, manager Jim Tracy said, and “felt very, very good.” Corpas is scheduled to throw a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday.

“We’ll see where this takes us,” Tracy said. “But as of right now, things are looking pretty good.”

Corpas last pitched on June 18. The following day he reported to Coors Field with a sore, swollen elbow. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list as of June 19. An MRI exam detected a bone chip in the elbow, but the hope is Corpas will be able to postpone minor surgery until after the season.

That’s good to hear that Corpas is feeling good, hope he progresses and is able to pitch for the remainder of the season without further issue.

I have another bullpen related question though, why hasn’t Ryan Speier been recalled from AAA?

I know he had a setback in early June, but since he’s returned to the Sky Sox he’s given up 0 ER in 5 appearances. I see he hasn’t worked back-to-back games yet and they could be waiting for that, but by the way he’s pitching down there he seems to be over his issues.

I was just wondering what his status was because I hadn’t heard any updates anywhere.

Thanks and you all have a great site here.

I agree on Speier as there must be a reason they are waiting. With him and Corpas coming back soon, hopefully, the bullpen will be real solid.

    Mo_Rockies and Robb,

Speier is likely to be up shortly. He started another 30-day rehab period when he began pitching again June 23 for Colorado Springs.

I don’t know that there is all that much to complain with about the Rockies bullpen considering that the majority of them have been shut down guys who came from the Springs. Fact is, the starters have been pitching deep into the ballgame almost every game and it’s tough to find all of those guys an inning or a batter to face when they haven’t played in a few days. Speier didn’t look as good when healthy as some of the guys that are their now like Daley, Peralta, Fogg, etc.
