Embree Surgery Goes Well; Belisle Recalled

Reliever Alan Embree underwent successful surgery Saturday on his fractured right tibia. Manager Jim Tracy, who said a rod was inserted in Embree’s leg, added that Embree “will be weight-bearing within three days and walking around on it within a few days.”
Embree was struck on the right shin by a line drive hit by Martin Prado in the seventh inning Friday night and taken off the field on a cart. Tracy said Embree’s leg was not placed in a cast, and Tracy said, “we won’t rule anything out” about the possibility of Embree returning this season.
“I don’t want to say anything more specific,” Tracy said, “other than the fact that (trainer) Keith (Dugger) mentioned something to me about September. Let’s take it a day at a time, but that’s a fairly miraculous thing for me to be saying this afternoon after what we saw take place last night.”
Reliever Matt Belisle was brought up from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Embree’s place on the roster. The Rockies purchased the contract of Belisle, whom they designated for assignment on May 25 after he went 1-1 with an 8.31 ERA in 14 appearances. At Colorado Springs, Belisle allowed one earned run in 12 innings in his past nine games.

Hopefully this time around goes better for Belisle.
Best of luck to Alan Embree on his recovery
If Belisle shows improvement, I believe Josh Fogg’s days will be numbered. Tracy doesn’t seem real big on him.
I read somewhere that Jason Hirsch was outrighted to CS. Did he have to clear waivers and is he off the 40-man roster?
cisco–yes. Hirsh is off the 40-man.
Why not call Flores back up, Belisle is be-rutal
Was there any timeline issue perhaps with Flores just being sent down? Don’t they have to be down for something like 10-15 days?
Betting it will be that Belisle gets DFA’d again and not Fogg.
Karl,
A player optioned to the minors can’t be recalled within 10 days, unless there’s an injury. So Flores could have been brought back. But since the Rockies had just seen him and deemed him expendable, they decided to take another look at Belisle, since he had been pitching well at Triple-A.
