Deduno, Pacheco Snare Honors

Double-A Tulsa right-hander Samuel Deduno, who made up for lost time this season, was named Pitcher of the Year in the Texas League. And low Class A Asheville catcher Jordan Pacheco, who flourished in his first full professional season, was named the Most Valuable Player in the South Atlantic League on Monday.
After missing the entire 2008 season following Tommy John surgery, Deduno, 26, is 12-4 with a 2.69 ERA for the Drillers. While holding opposing hitters to a .207 average, Deduno has 69 walks and 116 strikeouts in 127 innings. He leads the league in wins and ERA and is four strikeouts from the lead in that category as he seeks to win the Texas League’s pitching Triple Crown.
Pacheco, 23, is hitting .325 for the Tourists with 29 doubles, 13 home runs and 79 RBI. He also has a .382 on-base percentage and .502 slugging percentage. A converted second baseman, Pacheco began catching in 2008 at short-season Class A Tri-City, where he began his career in 2007.
Pacheco is the second Asheville player to win MVP honors in as many years. Third baseman Darin Holcomb was the 2008 MVP in the South Atlantic League. Holcomb jumped to Tulsa this year and joined Deduno, pitcher Jhoulys Chacin and closer Andrew Johnston on the Texas League All-Star team.
In addition to Pacheco, Asheville outfielder Scott Robinson was named to the SAL All-Star team.
