Street Takes First Step; Torrealba Rests
Closer Huston Street, sidelined with biceps tendinitis, picked up a ball Monday for the first time since he last pitched Sept. 1. Manager Jim Tracy said Street played light catch, making about 20 throws at 50-60 feet and did fine.
If Street continues to progress, Tracy said he would like to get him in a game before the Rockies open a three game series at San Francisco next Monday, namely over the weekend at San Diego. Tracy said he would “strongly consider” having Street not try to close in his first game back.
Also, Chris Iannetta is starting at catcher today. Tracy said Yorvit Torrealba, who has started the past three games and seven of the past eight, has taken a beating blocking balls, particularly Sunday when he caught Jorge De La Rosa, who battled to find the strike zone in his five innings.
Tracy said Torrealba would be back behind the plate Tuesday.
“He walked in this morning,” Tracy said. “He looked like a grape from Martha’s Vineyard, he was so bruised up.”
