Jim, without really knowing of the situation my guess would be that after being called into the game the reliever took additional warm ups and the umpire used those against him. It is why managers will usually spend time chatting on the mound when they are going to bring a reliever in. It allows the reliever to get loose before he is officially int he game.

Derrek, I'm not sure Spilly is back with the ballclub next season either. He signed with Scott Boras and some say that's the kiss of death between player and small to mid market teams. That and his relative lack of performance this season might spell the end of the road for Ryan in Colorado.

Tracy.... The umpires reduced the pitcher warmup tossews to 3 from the normal 8 because he took too many warmup pitches in the bullpen. How is this addressed in the rules? I would GUESS that it is the umpires discretion. You are the guru of rules!!

Giambi is a cheap and effective bench bat and can take over atkins spot if need be and hawpe hasn't been impressive this entire second half so I don't know if it is time to ship him off yet or not? Atkins may come back but I think someone will pay him more than we should or hopefully will. I see him being a great fit out in his home state of California or even on the team we are playing right now because I think he is an upgrade to Feliz and isn't Utley one of his closest friends?? With all that said why not bring Giambi back?

Maybe they can get Brad Hawpe back into the infield. Let him be Helton's back up. Hes played first before, so you would think he could do it again. Then that would open up some ab's in the OF with Gonzalez, Fowler, Smith and Spilly. So I'm saying too that Giambi shouldn't come back. Over the course of a long season, I think he clogs the bench too much when your limited to the 25 man roster. But for now, he is an all important piece to the Rox puzzle.

I just can't see the Rox keeping Giambi, in spite of his contributions lately. His age, contract size, suspect abilities at 1st base, and his inability to play anywhere other that 1st, all argue against resigning him. I'd love to see him with the Rox next year, but I just can't see it happening.

Have to agree with Neil. Adtkins is gone and Giambi can spell Todd at first once or twice a week. Great club house player who the kids look up to and listen to. Who else are we going to run out to first base at this point.

As nice as it is to have that type of veteran leadership in the clubhouse, keeping Giambi next season would be doing a disservice to the team. Giambi is a one-trick pony at this stage of his career. He can swing a lefthanded bat but that's it. His fielding has been suspect for over a decade. Having a guy all season that can really only pinch hit is a luxury the Rockies can ill afford.

So, with Atkins more than likely gone next year who is going to spell Helton at first? Would you rather have Quintanilla's BIG bat coming off the bench in crucial situations? Giambi has stated that he likes it here and he is obviously contributing in a positive manner. Why not keep him here next year? To me he IS a keeper next year.

Would having a helton/giambi platoon be a good thing for the next year? Helton has shown that he is more effective when fresh, and Giambi coult play twice a week to stay sharp.
