Yes, I hate watching day games; especially w/ the shadows at CB Park.

OTOH, given the weather forecasts, those night games this weekend are going to be pretty chilly.

Sunday’s game will be really late, glad I don’t have to go to work the next day.

MLB needs to really do something with these start times. There is no reason a game should be starting after 8 PM on the east coast, specifically after 8 PM in Denver.

With the potential of four games on Sunday, unfortunately this is the only way it’s going to work, since the other three games are east of Denver (in Boston, Minneapolis, and St. Louis). The only other option would have two games airing at the same time, one on TBS, and one on TNT. But it is safe to say that most baseball fans across the country do not have “picture-in-picture” to catch both games.

Chris, there was a time when baseball tried playing games at the same time and the reaction was negative from fans who felt they were cheated because they didn’t get to see all of the games. Right now, with the staggered playoff in on league, there is only one day where four games are played and that’s on Sunday if there is not a sweep in the NL (this year).

Ridiculous. Don’t they even consider the forecasts? Oh…silly me.

Too bad money rules the sport. If the season could be shortened to 154 games per team we could slightly lengthen the postseason so we would’t have any four-game days. And, the postseason could be over by the end of October instead of intruding into the Thanksgiving season. Between the WBC adding two weeks to the preseason, the 162 game schedule, and an additional playoff round with the wild card we’re getting close to year-long baseball.

Not that having baseball year-round is all that bad of an option, mind you! LOL

Before the Rockies came into the National League in 1993, MLB was reluctant to add a team from Denver because of weather factors. The Rockies are making their presence known with their superb play and the Colorado weather behind them.

What happens though if LA beats STL on sat? They obviously don’t play on sunday then, so would that move up the Rox game? Or is it set in stone no matter what?

  • Derrek said:

Tracy, can you give us some insight on how the advanced scouting is working right now? Are the Rox scouting every team left at the possible chance of playing them later? How many scouts typically do teams have scouting right now?

Tracy, from a previous thread, I’ll concede location will have a part in the scheduling of the games. I’ll still maintain all other factors being equal, market size will be factored in for game times. The Yankees sure have a lot of nice times for their games.

But, I have to believe MLB is hurting themselves in the long run with the times during playoffs. Starting a game after 10 ET will eliminate the next generation of Philly fans from watching the game on a Sunday night because they’ll be in bed as the next day is a school day. And the adults will have to stay up until 1:00 am if they want to see the entire game. Not a great prospect when you need to get up at 6:00 am to go earn a living.

My fiance and I were lucky enough to get tickets to the NLDS, but she has already stated if she knew the times, she would not have been so enthusiastic about getting tickets. And she’s a big baseball fan. I too would have much preferred two games going on at once versus the late time on a Sunday night.

Personally I am doubtful there are going to be a lot of fans in the East and Central time zones. outside of Philadelphia/Pennsylvania areas, staying up to watch the Rockies vs Philly’s game Sunday night.

Thanks for the soapbox, it’s a good place to state our views on Baseball in general, the Rockies in particular.
