Time To Look Ahead

The Rockies will get the details worked out this week to take the first step in getting ready for 2010.

The Rockies are ready to finalize multi-year deals with general manager Dan O’Dowd and manager Jim Tracy.

They also will ask their entire coaching staff to return — bench coach Tommy Runnells, first base coach Glen Allen Hill, third base coach Rich Dauer, hitting coach Don Baylor, pitching coach Bob Apodaca and bullpen coach Jim Wright.

Runnells opened the 2009 season as the manager at Triple-A Colorado Springs, and was promoted to take Tracy’s spot on the big-league coaching staff when Tracy replaced Clint Hurdle as manager on May 29.

I hope Baylor is on a short leash. The performance of the batting lineup from 5-8 after the All-Star break should warrant a serious prerequisite for unemployment.

Interesting Tracy is content not to bring any of his pals on board.
What happen to getting your drinking buddies jobs?
That said, I feel all the coaches did good work this year.
Special kudos going to Glen Allen Hill, Bob Apodaca and bullpen coach Jim Wright.
    Great Job guys!

Not sure where else to post, so picked the short thread right now. Any discussion interest on if MLB should go to an instant replay? I know a lot of purists would argue against and say it would cause the games to go longer. But I would argue for the instant replay challenge of a flag of some sort to appeal to upstairs review booth. Would counter a manager jotting out onto the field and stating a case to no avail for a couple of minutes. A replay booth upstairs could easily overturn right away. I like this discussion I briefly heard on Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio on the way in this morning.

    Any thoughts?

Never been a big fan of Apadoca. That said, I have to admit he did a good job last year. As for Baylor, I am a hugh fan of him. Dont really understand why he couldnt help Adkins, Hawpe, Barmes more on hitting and cutting down on K’s. Rudy Jaramillo has left the Texas Rangers and is going to make someone a great hitting coach, with his great track record at the Rangers.

Mike, the umpiring in the playoffs has been terrible, to say the least. MLB is going to have to go to instant replays at least for the playoffs. Too much is on the line to have such terrible calls repeatedly. Makes you wonder what game the umps are watching! It will make the games longer, but like you said, will eliminate to some extent the manager waisting time on arguing to no avail.

If they do instant replay, they should model it after collegiate football. An official should review upstairs and buzz downstairs with the correct call. None of the meetings of the blue gathering together then walking under the stands somewhere to review like they presently do for home runs. That is the worst system possible.
