Fred,

Chacin is closer to the big leagues than you may think. He was pretty solid in non-pressure relief situations. A big league start is a jarring thing for the most seasoned of veterans, much less a couple of early 20's guys. I imagine he'll be in the rotation in '11.

The current rotation is pretty good. This year we will have Ubaldo Jimenez (the prospective ace for '10), Aaron Cook, Jorge De La Rosa (assuming he's consistent all year, he's as good as any), Jason Hammel (who was finally starting to get comfortable at Coors) and Jeff Francis (a big question here, but his command is as good as anyone in the league.

For that reason, the Rockies have very little need for Halladay for the price he'll demand. The Jays will want nothing less than an affordable ace (Jimenez) for someone who has one year left on his contract. He's sure to be a type-A free agent, but when his contract is up, a team like Boston or New York will fork out top dollar - I'm thinking 20 million plus a season - to secure him.

Mike Hampton/Denny Neagle anyone?

The Rockies won't gamble that.

Halladay isn't needed this year. Because, as it stands, that's the only year he'd be good for if he arrived.

"Deep farm system and who might that be that can come in and fill a role. Surely not the non strike throwers in AAA (Chacin and Rogers)?
There isn't anyone close to pitching in the big leagues.

Andrew,

I personally believe there is zero interest in Halladay. There's simply no need for him. The rotation is set (even without Marquis, you can add in Francis for '10, and a deep farm system is included). The price they'd demand would be too high for what the team needs.

Tracy,
How big of chance is it that the Rockies will go after Roy Halladay and what would they have to give up to acquire him?

Should we be at all surprised/concerned that Dan and Tracy have yet to sign new deals?
