Teams posted for Rockies intrasquad game

TUCSON — It’s 39 degrees and pouring rain at soggy Hi Corbett Field where the mound and home plate are covered, but the infield has no tarp and is almost all covered with water.

Teams for Monday’s 12:30 p.m. intrasquad game were posted in the clubhouse. Eric Young Jr., who will play left field, Ian Stewart and Dexter Fowler are scheduled to play, along with a host of young pitchers and position players with no major league experience.

Also scheduled to play is outfielder Jay Payton, 37, who is in camp on a minor-league contract and trying to revive his career after missing all of 2009 following shoulder surgery. Payton took a look at the squads and said, “I got to fix the spelling of my last name. It’s P-A-Y not P-E-Y. Didn’t bode well. It’s good though. I need to see as much live pitching as I can.”

Manager Jim Tracy said there will be no stealing in the game, because he doesn’t want to risk anyone straining a hamstring or quadriceps at this early point in camp.
