Rockies send three more to minor-league camp

The Colorado Rockies announced Tuesday three pitchers had been sent to their minor-league camp. Right-handers Jhoulys Chacin and Samuel Deduno, who were on the 40-man roster, were optioned, and left-hander Jimmy Gobble was reassigned.

Chacin was 1-0 with 10.29 ERA in seven innings this spring.

Deduno was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in eight innings.

Gobble appeared in three games and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Already a long shot to be the second left-handed middle reliever out of the bullpen with Franklin Morales taking over the closer role temporarily, Gobble’s bid hit a major roadblock with the Rockies reportedly bringing back Joe Beimel.

The Rockies now have 41 players in camp.

Beimel’s the right choice in my opinion. Although I really like Chacin’s talent, he may need a little more cooking. He’s seen the big leagues, but AAA for a bit more couldn’t hurt.

On a competely unrelated (but really cool) note, we were able to take in fan photo day at Hi Corbett this last Saturday. I had my 6 month old son with me (in full Rockies gear) and I wanted to say what a great guy Jimmy Gobble was, really down to earth and I’m really rooting for him. For that matter, all of the players who we were able to meet were very gracious and seemed genuinely happy to meet the fans (CarGo was a riot and was like a little kid suiting up for a little league game-great fun). I’m sure that these kind of things aren’t high on the players “want to do” list, but they were all very nice and never said no to a photo. We now have some amazing photos of our baby boy with some big leaguers-we’ll cherish them for a long time (Probably me more than anyone!).

Steve, I hope you could pass along to the Rockies organization that this was an amazing opportunity and (if possible) made my wife and I even bigger fans. THIS is how you keep fans and create new fans.

Sorry for the long rant folks!

    Go Rockies!
