Jeff Francis ready for rehab assignment

Left-hander Jeff Francis, who missed the 2009 season following left shoulder surgery, threw four innings in extended spring training in Tucson on Saturday. Things went well enough that the Rockies will have Francis begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Tulsa on Thursday.

Manager Jim Tracy said the next step after Thursday will be decided upon after the Rockies see how Francis responds to the four-inning effort. The odds are Francis will most likely have at least one, probably two, more rehab assignments before he could be seriously considered to be activated from the disabled list.

Francis was sidelined the final week of spring training because of a soreness that develop in his left arm pit. The injury was not related to the surgery, but most likely was the result of extending muscles that were not fully strengthened.

Right-hander Huston Street, meanwhile, will throw live batting practice on Tuesday.

Rookie right-hander Esmil Rogers had his struggles in his start on Saturday, but is expected to get another turn in the rotation at Los Angeles on Friday night.

Do you have any updated information on Christian Friedrich at AA Tulsa? If I remember correctly, he should be coming off the DL for Tulsa in the next few days?

Rich, Friedrich is eligible to come off the disabled list, but I don’t know that he is ready. Last I heard he was still being bothered by the soreness.
