Rockies add high school pitcher with sandwich pick

With their compensatory first-round pick, 47th overall, the Colorado Rockies selected right-handed high-school pitcher Peter Tago from Dana Hills, Calif. The Rockies received the pick as compensation for the Washington Nationals signing Jason Marquis in the offseason.

Tago was rated the 36th overall prospect by Baseball America. The Rockies’ first-round pick, Kyle Parker, was 37th.

From the MLB.com scouting report:

Tago may not be the biggest high school arm in this Draft class, but he’s got one of the more electric fastballs. He can touch the mid-90s with plenty of life with it. His curve shows flashes, but it’s behind the fastball. His command needs improvement as well. It’s all about arm strength for Tago, and he’s got plenty of it. The team who feels they can build off that and refine his other pitches will be the one to take him fairly early.

    Steve,

I asked the question in the Huston Street post, just wondering if I could get an answer on that? I’d actually like to add a couple more…

Any word yet on when Hector Gomez and Sam Deduno will be back?… also, how about Delta Cleary? Aaron Weatherford?

And any word on where Kyle Hancock and Ricardo Ferrer will be pitching this year? I was really hoping with Hancock’s age and how he looked last year, that he would be pitching in Asheville this year. I guess not… so are we looking at Tri-Cities? Sorta disappointing, as he is already sort of older now. And Ferrer, he was highly touted.

Thank you for your time and response!
