Game Recap: Angels 4, Rockies 2

June 26, 2010 | 10:26 pm | 8

Key to the Game
With one out and a runner on first for the Los Angeles Angels in the bottom of the first inning, Colorado Rockies starter Aaron Cook induced a slow grounder by Bobby Abreu that could have been a double play. Ian Stewart fielded the ball and flipped it to second, but the ball sailed over Johnny Herrera’s head. Rather than an inning-ending double-play or, at worst, a second out, the inning went on.

Torii Hunter hit a fly ball to right-center that dropped in the one place where no one was standing for a single to load the bases. Cook fell behind 3-0 to Hideki Matsui then gave up a grand slam on the next pitch.

Cook allowed only one hit and no walks the rest of the way, pitching eight otherwise efficient innings.

Other Highlights
– Johnny Herrera singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
Clint Barmes hit a solo home run in the third inning, his first home run since May 28.
Melvin Mora doubled with one out in the fourth and scored on a Miguel Olivo single.

Cook looked great after the first. That’s the one good thing from this game. That’s about it, but it is no small thing.

Silver lining 2 good outings for Cookie. Build on it, sooner or later the Pads are gonna wake-up.

Poor Cookie, can’t buy a win, not since like last July.

Could have been an 8 in.shutout w/o the error,at worst 3-0.Cook’s best outing this year I think-how many ground outs? But I suggest there was a fatigue factor that may have tempered any comeback energy.Need that gritty, fighting new found spirit to return for rest of a difficult trip.Win series today, and win series inS.F.!

I wish Matsui was still with the Yankees hitting grand slams in Dodger Stadium.

Didn’t quite understand Tracy’s lineup last night. Why go with 4 lefthanders in the lineup against Saunders? Last week he used Ianetta as the DH against Liriano in Minn. Why didn’t he do the same again last night? On Friday Ianetta had a homer and a double, why not have him in the lineup two days in a row and see if he stays hot? And why have Nelson up here if he’s not going to be used? I would have liked to seen him at third instead of Stewart (2 strikeouts).

Off topic, but i read in the Boston Globe that Baylor is looking to be interviewed for managerial positions e.g. Florida and even Baltimore. Anything more than smoke here and just wanting to be considered or is there something else going on? Any thoughts?
