Rockies prospect Friedrich leaves start with injury
The Tulsa World reports left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich left his start Wednesday with a strained lat muscle. Friedrich pitched two innings and left the game in the third inning after facing three hitters. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out two.
Friedrich, the Colorado Rockies’ first-round pick in 2008, has been slowed by multiple injuries this season. In 18 games at Double-A Tulsa, he is 3-6 with a 5.05 ERA.
At Asheville, 2009 first-rounder Tyler Matzek lasted just 2 2/3 innings, but his early exit was about performance. Matzek walked five and left after throwing 81 pitches, approaching his 85-pitch limit in less than three innings.

First round pitching jinx continues for Dan O. If we don’t pick another pitcher in the first round until O’Dowd is gone that would be fine by me.
What the deal with these guys, no gonads or what!
I don’t know Fred. This is way off base I’m sure, but maybe the problem is the Rox are too busy looking for character guys and that is translating into softness.
Just looking at the faces of most of our pitchers its like, “you’re telling me he’s a major league ball player and not a Target stock boy?”
LOL
Prog may be on to something. Obviously character is important but I think talent and toughness are even more important. And since O’Dowd has been on board he’s been very out front about wanting people with good character.
I want a guy with good character to marry my daughter. And that happened. But for my ball club I want someone who is talented above all else. I’m not sure if O’Dowd looks at character first or not.
That shouldn’t play a part in who gets hurt. I think we’ve just had bad luck in that department.
What I always liked about Brian Fuentes and what I like about Betancourt is their face just looks tough. i don’t imagine those guys tossing a player a lollipop of a pitch. Street or Francis or Manny Corpus, they have a look on their face that doesn’t intimidate.
