Rockies acquire Dotel from Dodgers
The Colorado Rockies announced that they have acquired right-handed reliever Octavio Dotel from the Los Angeles Dodgers along with cash in exchange for a player to be named later. Dotel, 36, will be pitching for his third team this season He will switch clubhouses and be in uniform for the Rockies on Saturday.
The Rockies have transferred Manuel Corpas to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the roster.
Dotel began the 2010 season with Pittsburgh before being traded to the Dodgers on July 31. Between the two teams, Dotel has gone 3-3 with 22 saves in 28 opportunities, a 3.99 ERA, 28 walks and 69 strikeouts in 60 games.

Too funny Steve. I just aked if anyone knew who we gave up in the story from last night. I hope we didn’t give up alot.
I’m sorry, I needed to hear confirmation from someone other than Rosenthal.
Thanks
Probably a minor prospect given how late it is in the season. Dodgers can’t be expecting much. Not sure who it will be.
Yes, hopefully did not give up much at all. He can’t play for us in the post season.
The Rockies should just sign me for $10.00 and then send me to the Dodgers as the player to be named later. The Dodgers will release me and we get Dotel for nothing!
Rent-a-Closer. An experienced guy, who’s available cheap, to back up Street. Nice move…I like it.
Lets give them Morales, hes trying to give away a 12 zip lead.
Fred, do not give up on Morales yet. This has been a lost season but as I wrote earlier this month, the guys on mlb network at the beginning of the season believed the Rockies were better with Morales than Street at closer. He has great stuff, a great arm, and is still young. Whether as a bargaining chip or someone that can re-coached into a starter or closer, we cannot judge his whole potential on this disasterous 2010 season. I am guessing that Dac gives a lot of attentiion to Morales this off-season. Dac and company changed DLR from a headcase great arm into a guy who was dominant in 2009 and now healthy again is making a great case for being #2 in the playoff rotation if we get there. I know its easy to dump on Franklin but he saved the day last year when Street got hurt and I still think either as a real trading chip or as an end of the pen arm (or maybe still a starter) he is one of the most talented lefty arms on the roster.
Glad to get help, even if its too late for post-season. Can we get Octovia to change his name to Botel? Should shave .5 off his era alone. Given how used up Beimal, Betencoury and Beslisle have been this past month and even Street’s bad FRiday night, the reinforcement is great. Kudos to Dan O for not stopping the wheels turning. Whatever he costs (my bet is its someone no one without a subscription to ITR has ever heard of), if he gives them say 7-8 innings of max 1 ER during the next two weeks, he will be well worth it.
Steve,
I saw somewhere that Dotel has a 4.5 million dollar option for next year, with a $500,000 buyout. I can’t imagine the Rocks picking up that salary, can you? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have him a fully season to help share the Betancourt/Belisle workload. However, we all know that we’re dealing with a tight budget. Plus, it’s really nice to have a guy who has a lot of experience closing games on your team in case Street gets hurt (see Morales and Corpas this year).
This is a good pickup.
What is the point of the Dodgers trading him a month and a half after trading for him? I bet they’d like James McDonald back. As competitors, we’re lucky the McCourts appear to have messed up that organization so much. The Rockies are sending money to the Dodgers!
Hopefully, we won’t give up much for having Dotel for a few weeks.
Do we have sense yet as to whether Delcarmen will be of use to the Rockies (both this year and next) and whether we gave up too much for him?
