The Colorado Rockies announced Friday that the team has released catcher Chad Moeller to let him pursue more playing time with another team.

Moeller, who just three spring at-bats with the Rockies, was competing for the backup catcher job. The job remains open, but the competition has tightened to Jose Morales, Jordan Pacheco, Mike McKenry and Matt Pagnozzi.

Moeller’s release is the Rockies’ first move of the spring. The team now has 62 players in its major league camp.
