Rockies lineup vs. Pirates, 4/29
After two days off, the Colorado Rockies will put much the same lineup on the field as they were planning to use in the third game of their series against the Chicago Cubs. Chris Iannetta, who was due for a day off Wednesday, is the only change in the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
CF Dexter Fowler
2B Jonathan Herrera
LF Carlos Gonzalez
SS Troy Tulowitzki
1B Todd Helton
RF Seth Smith
3B Jose Lopez
C Chris Iannetta
SP Jhoulys Chacin

Roster change: Alfredo Amezaga up, Clay Mortensen back to AAA. Haven’t heard roster move yet to make room for Amezaga; I looked at the 40-man and Alan Johnson would make the most sense since he’s least likely to be claimed by somebody else.
That’s the exact move. Just posted the news.
FYI if you are planning on going to Sunday’s game you better get tickets fast. It looks like a sell-out. I had to get mine from Stubhub.
A sell out? Against the Pirates? With iffy weather?
You go Rocks fans. Love every one of you.
I wonder how long until CarGo’s average hits .000 …
3rd hole pressure may be getting to Cargo. Still think they need to move him down in the order soon if he does not come around. Hit him 5th. Move Helton to 3. Guise it as a promotion for Helton more than a knock on Carlos. At least his defense has been great.
I like what George just said about Johnny Herrera. He is not a home run hitter, he is a line drive hitter. I would like Fowler to take his hitting to the next level and also realize this. His two strike approach needs to change.
Still the 6th, but team batting to start is not good so far tonight.
getting out slugged by the pirates is pretty embarrassing.
Is it just me or we can’t hit??? Anybody else freaked about this? It’s freaky we are 16-7 w/ this pitiful offensive performance. I mean go Rocks but I am really starting to get concerned.
Yes, I an VERY concerned. Everyone keeps saying that the hitting will break out of this slump….but what if the bullpen breaks down first?
Prog, yeah really. What happens then? BTW love your comments. I am a new poster to the site but have appreciated your insight over the last couple months.
I am concerned too.
Helton and Smith are the only consistent hitters. Tulo was on a tear for a week or two. Some timely hits by the .200 hitters and a spark from Herrera and that’s about it.
Thanks Jeem. Welcome to this great site with a lot of fun people.
Can we call up the entire Sky Sox for a few days? Every one of them is knocking the cover off the ball. Meanwhile, the Rockies are sitting on their hands a bit. Fowler has what, 3 strikeouts? Though to his credit I think he got jobbed on about 5 pitches by the umpire all told. Maybe Dexter’s height is working against him with that huge strike zone and not enough ability to reach some of them?
This might be our first shut out of the season? The way we’ve been hitting the past few weeks that is surprising.
Boring, uninspired for a team that has much time off over the last week.
While I agree that the Rockies are struggling offensively it sure does make it hard to get on track when you face a pitching performance like the Pirates brought.
Averaging 6.1 runs a game already seems like a long time ago to me.
Since the broadcast crew mentioned, more than once, the Rockies were 16-7 with the best record I would like to mention that ended when the game ended. They will either be tied for 2nd or maybe even in 3rd. Not that it matters a bunch the end of April. :>)
tired of Goodman saying “we all know the Rockies will hit”.
Do we now?
Well if there was ever a sleeper… better luck tomorrow. Wish I had enough energy to go to the Diamond + vote for Chris Romer!
Boy it is true every time you look at the farm report everybody at CS, Tulsa, and Modesto is crushing it. What is with this weather? I am here in Capitol Hill and no sign of snow. Anyway, oh well we’ll beat’em tomorrow!
I agree with Prog that Dex is the victim of a lot of dubious called strikes. (Sorry Ed the Ump.) Good point about his height and large zone.
Prog u beat me to it again. My opening was going to be:”not the same old manta that the rockies are GOING TO HIT”I believe it was about May 1 last year when I first took the position that I was tired of hearing it. By may 15 many here agreed, and by memorial day pretty much all regular posters were asking-WHEN! Well it only took till July 4th or so,and we had dug a hole.Jim Tracy’s,”all 8 cylinders”,didn’t kick in until mid August, and despite the great run it was too late.Right now “hate Dex at leadoff”,would switch him with Herrera for betterOBP. plus Dex doesn’t steal, and still tough to double up.Helton back to 3 hole and Cargo to 5 spot.Right now Todd,s outs are loud and he looked great at 3 against a lefty in Chicago, and his half swing against Bucs almost left the yard.Wiggy’s injury reall hurts as he finally looked like breaking out of his slump.
Gary I’ll concur with the new lineup. It really can’t hurt anything considering we were winning games without much offense to begin with, so there shouldn’t be any fear of “messing it up”.
