Triple Play, April 30: Hammel, ‘rainouts’ and Gonzalez
–Jason Hammel is scheduled to start Saturday. Rockies need him to regain his Coors Field magic. He was 7-2 at Coors Field last year. He is coming off a strong start in Florida. Stuff is there for him to be a No. 3 starter. Time for consistency.
–Rockies moved Esmil Rogers back to start next Saturday in San Francisco. That keeps rest of rotation from being thrown way off track after having back-to-back days without a game. Seems like Cubs should face some discipline for that phony rainout on Wednesday.
–Carlos Gonzalez bunted for a base hit in his final at-bat Friday. Big deal? Could be. At least the 0-for-25 streak is ended. Could give him peace of mind. He has enjoyed success against Pittsburgh.

I knew CarGo went 1 for 4 last night, but didn’t know it was a bunt hit.
When you need a basehit due to a slump, you have to get it, no matter how.
Hope CarGo takes a little confidence in the upcoming games.
GO ROCKIES!
“Phony rainout”?! This is the 1st I have heard of this. Chicago shinangans? I take this to mean that the home team – not the Umps, as I always thought – determine if there is a washout? Perhaps a little cowboy humor?
Im confused bout that too. Was it a phony rain out?
It was sunny in the afternoon in Chicago is what I read. Big shock, weather forecasters were wrong about the weather.
the thing was it was an afternoon game and instead of starting the game and seeing if they could get an official game in over the span of 8-10 hours if needed they decided to call the game before 2pm even rolled around. The Rockies obviously had an off day the next day and even if the game went late the Cubs would have had almost a 24 hours break for the next game as it was a night game in Arizona!
It didn’t look anywhere near a rain-out on tv. They were saying, ‘it isn’t bad but I guess there is a “cell” coming?’
I thought it was very fishy watching it, but thought I was only wanting them to play so bad that I was thinking the umps were being wimps.
I listened to part of the pre-game show on the radio going from one appointment to another and Jack and Jerry were pretty sure they were going to play.
I believe the “rule” is that the home team makes the call until the game starts. Once it starts it’s up to the umps.
Why does anybody believe weather forecasters. Their average is below the Mendoza line. I was expecting it to be wet and/or snowy this morning. Woke up it was beautiful. Although cold and windy.
Cowboy, that’s a bit too conspiratorial for my tastes. Home team calls an April game just to avoid facing Jhoulys Chacin? Yeah, he shut them out last time and he’s a fine young pitcher, but this isn’t September, this isn’t a pennant race, and this isn’t Felix Hernandez.
I’m guessing that everyone expected a major soaker, that it had already been raining for most of the last few days, that ticket sales were slow and that — believe it or not — the Cubs actually showed a little respect for their fans by calling this one before everyone made the trip to Wrigley to sit through what the weatherman thought would be a miserable, rain-delayed afternoon.
