Nicasio, Massanari win Rockies April minors awards

Double-A Tulsa pitcher Juan Nicasio and low Class A catcher Bryce Massanari were the winners of the Colorado Rockies minor league awards for April. Nicasio was named Minor League Pitcher of the Month and Massanari was named Minor League Player of the Month.

Nicasio, 24, is 4-1 with a 1.88 ERA and four walks and 40 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings over five starts. He made four starts in April, going 3-1, 2.45 with three walks and 30 strikeouts in 22 innings.

Massanari, who turned 25 on Friday, is hitting .388 (33-for-85) with seven homers and 23 RBI in 22 games. During 20 April games, Massanari hit .395 (30-for-76) with seven homers, 22 RBI, a .460 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage. The Rockies drafted Massanari in the 30th round last year out of Georgia.
