Rockies recall Reynolds to take Paulino’s spot
The Colorado Rockies recalled Greg Reynolds on Sunday, a move that was expected after the team designated Felipe Paulino for assignment on Saturday. Reynolds is active and available in the bullpen for Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The former first-round pick is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA for the Rockies this season. For the Sky Sox, he is 3-1 with a 6.29 ERA. Reynolds would work out of the bullpen and provide the Rockies a long reliever. With a double-header schedule Tuesday, the Rockies will need an extra starter at some point in the coming week. Reynolds likely will start Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
How long Reynolds will be with the Rockies, however, is unknown. Aaron Cook is expected back at the end of the month and reliever Rex Brothers will likely be recalled sometime soon to give the Rockies a second left-hander in the bullpen.

Goodbye and good ridance, maybe this team wants to win afterall.
I know Renck is less than liked by some here, but this is an excellent article that talks about brothers.
Waiting to avoid possible Super 2 arbitration status (after 2013!) for Brothers — while the season slips away in large part because of bullpen failures — strikes me as ridiculous. Franklin Morales was a better prospect in 2007 than Brothers in 2011. Greg Reynolds too. Pitchers are so iffy that unless you’ve got a once in a decade stud (think Steven Strasburg, maybe David Price but that was a stretch) it reeks of serious overthinking to try to time things like this. Unless Brothers becomes a closer and a very successful one, the Super 2 thing will have a relatively minor financial impact — less than the impact of missing the playoffs in 2011 because some Morales or Reynolds or Paulino blew another lead.
Wouldn’t a Brothers-Prince Fielder matchup on Friday night have been a great thing to see?
I really like Reynolds being put in the pen although that’s only because Paulino had to go. Reynolds looked good in some early starts but I’m not sure he’s a starter long term. Salvage what you can out of him and maybe him relieving, middle and long, is the role for him and for the Rockies to squeeze a few more drops out of a bad investment.
