“Eric Young Jr., who has hit in nine of his past 10 games, was not in the lineup.”
Perhaps he is joining the big club???? Please!
Many say everyone hits in AAA. Eric Young is different. He has the big average but he also, without power, has piled up doubles and triples, walks more than he strikes out, is stealing bases (and has only been caught once). He can play outfield and (I contend) some second base.
He is, offensively, what Dexter Fowler hasn’t been at the top of the lineup, a catalyst.
BRING HIM UP, DOD.
Any more to read into this Steve as Pooter and Michael are inferring?
Not sure. It could have just been a day off.
I noticed that Josh Fields is leading the PCL in hitting (EY has a slightly higher OBP). How is he as a defensive player?
Now that Morales and Paulino are gone, the next player to be put under the microscope should be Lopez. If he doesn’t show quick improvement both as a hitter and a fielder, he should be the next player to be moved (does he have any trade value), and perhaps Fields can take his place.
I for one agree with Kizla in todays’s post. Lucky for the “stars” that they are in Denver instead of say Philly, NYC, Boston, they are constatly coddled as I have said before. Hopefully they can wake up this week. Worst record in MLB since April 16th, this is just no accecptable.
Julian,
Lopez is showing improvement. His stats over the last 10 games:
BA .353 (12-34, only 3 K)
OBP .371
SLG .441
OPS .813
His defense could improve but I don’t think he’s any worse than Wiggy. Not sure how Fields is as a fielder.
Fields is pretty poor at 3B. Not as brutal as Wiggy has been in his career, but roughly 10 runs below average over the course of a full season. Think Garrett Atkins. Wiggy is somewhere between that and the awful Greg Norton. Lopez is a bit above average defensively at 3B.
I’m not a huge EY fan, but there’s no question he brings more than Amezaga. So if that’s the choice right now, it’s a no brainer. Herrera and Amezaga are both good glove/little hit one dimensional guys. Even if speed is EY’s sole dimension, at least it’s a different dimension that could help the club right now
If we bring up EY, where does he fit? That’s why he’s not coming up for a while unless we are so desperate for instant energy while ignoring defense.
Didn’t I say a few weeks ago that Stewart would come back cranking at AAA again? And of course it means nothing. Does he fold under pressure, or is the problem that he doesn’t put enough pressure on himself? AAA is like “little league” to him, in his words. So why is the jump to MLB so hard for him?
Steve,
During the pre-game today one of the Root guys mentioned that F. Paulino had been optioned to CS. Is this correct? Did he clear waivers and that is why they can ship him to CS?
I didn’t catch the pregame, so I didn’t hear what you are referring to. There has been no transaction announced. Not sure how accurate this is, but a Venezuelan baseball site reported earlier today that Paulino has not yet been placed on waivers, according to his agent.
