    I actually like this lineup.

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 10:30 am

Me too. Like that Smith is batting ahead of Lopez. Are they going to play?

  • Swam | May 24, 2011 | 10:35 am

What are the chances this day game starts on time? I was hoping to get down to the yard!

  • Pooter | May 24, 2011 | 11:34 am

I am getting really tired of seeing J-Lo in the lineup! He has played better of late, still tired of his face. I do think Herrera is going to be a good leadoff hitter.

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 12:16 pm

LOL “Still tired of his face”.

I think they’re really trying to force him in there. Like “you’re going to succeed or die trying”. Similar to Ian Stewart. The end result will either be the guy improves or he’s gone. I don’t think they’ll continue down the path as it currently is much longer.

  • Swam | May 24, 2011 | 12:27 pm

Hilarious Pooter! Lopez is the worst. I don’t know how DOD ever got sold on such a slow, doorknob-handed waste of a roster spot.

  • miketober | May 24, 2011 | 12:32 pm

Lopez is hitting .353 his last 10 games, and he is 3-12 against the D-Backs this year. Unfortunately he has 4 errors at 3B.

Wigginton is hitting .231, including 1-5 against the D-Backs.

I guess JTracy wants to ride the hot bat offensively.

  • rockymountainhigh | May 24, 2011 | 12:36 pm

Why are a lot of you so down on Lopez? egossage posted this in another thread:

Lopez is showing improvement. His stats over the last 10 games:

    BA .353 (12-34, only 3 K)
    OBP .371
    SLG .441
    OPS .81

I saw a tweet – Lopez has faced Saunders 34 times in his career – no Ks.

Hope the game gets started soon enough so it doesn’t push back the evening game that I will be attending tonight.

  • Jaredean | May 24, 2011 | 12:49 pm

    Lopez is a defensive liability.

  • egossage | May 24, 2011 | 12:54 pm

    So is Wiggy

  • DRH | May 24, 2011 | 12:56 pm

I’ve been down on Lopez so far but admit he’s hit better recently. I think there are two reasons people have been down on him.
    1. Stewart was such a good fielder, we have high expectations. JLo is below average defensively. Wiggington is average. Stewart was way above.
    2. Many of us have dreams and expectations of someone else there, whether M. Young thru trade or bringing up Nelson from AAA.
Its been THE problem area for the Rockies in this first quarter. Lopez is taking the brunt of the frustration because Stewart isn’t here. Whatever the Rockies’ solution to this, I do hope its soon. Maybe its Lopez growing into it, but his defensive skills are somewhat of a downgrade from the rest of the infield.

“riding the hot bat”… love that idea, let’s see if Jimmy T stays on that bat for more than 24 hours. or if he rides another one tomorrow.

Just thinking here. Like this lineup, but what if we moved Fowler down to 7th? Everyone else moves up one. I almost hate to think of Todd in the 4 hole, but at least he could rake someone in. Then Fowler might have someone to RBI in, and if he does Chris I might have cause to not walk.

    I’m probably over thinking this.

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 2:28 pm

Thats all we need is an injury to a starting pitcher.

I’m only listening to the radio, but it sounds like the snake-bitten hitting is continuing. Every hard hit ball or liner is being caught, mean while the Dbacks get broken bat doubles.

Is a higher power mad at someone in the Rockies organization?

  • Wayne | May 24, 2011 | 2:34 pm

This is a bad baseball team right now, and the only luck it has is bad luck.

  • miketober | May 24, 2011 | 2:36 pm

Yup. The D-backs hit 2 double-play balls and end up with 3 runs.

  • Anonymous | May 24, 2011 | 2:50 pm

No chemistry. Everyone is on their own page.

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 2:56 pm

Radio guys says Jim Tracy rejects wholesale change to Rockies lineup because he “respects baseball”.

Not sure wtf that means, but if the chemistry doesn’t work as is, then its an insult to the team to not make adjustments.

For instance, would going with this lineup be a “disrespect” to the game? Its not like asking for the pitcher to hit cleanup or Tulo to hit 8th or something.

    Herrera
    Cargo
    Helton
    Tulo
    Smith
    Lopez
    Fowler
    Iannetta

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 2:57 pm

    Another solo HR.

  • miketober | May 24, 2011 | 3:02 pm

Touch ‘em all time for Seth Smith!

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 3:03 pm

    Another solo HR.

Everyone’s a hero with no one on base.

  • miketober | May 24, 2011 | 3:04 pm

Very true Prog, but Helton has robbed of a single. So the higher powers robbed the Rockies that time.

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 3:32 pm

    good inning guys.

  • miketober | May 24, 2011 | 3:34 pm

Now THAT was a Trust-the-guy-behind-you team rally.

  • rockymountainhigh | May 24, 2011 | 3:36 pm

We got along fine defensively with Garret Atkins at 3B. So Lopez is good enough at 3B.

  • Pooter | May 24, 2011 | 3:38 pm

And that is how a good inning is killed!! Way to go J-Lo!! My hat is off to the middle of the order for coming through and Seth Smith for coming up with a big two out knock!

  • miketober | May 24, 2011 | 3:47 pm

    No sac bunt here???

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 4:13 pm

Nice inning by Betancourt. Hope he comes back for 1 more inning then hopefully go to Lindstrom in the 9th.

  • egossage | May 24, 2011 | 4:24 pm

Why can’t we do this on the road???????

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 4:36 pm

I don’t think we’ve done this anywhere. lol

really hope this is a start of something. even without the HRs, the abs with runners on base has been really encouraging.

  • progmatinee | May 24, 2011 | 4:36 pm

i must have been on the phone, why was tulo pulled?

  • Steve Foster | May 24, 2011 | 4:43 pm

He’s just getting a couple innings off before the second game. Gonzalez, too.

  • Wayne | May 24, 2011 | 4:54 pm

I wish I could understand this team.

  • egossage | May 24, 2011 | 4:56 pm

Me too Wayne. They’ll probably come out the second game and get no hit by Saunders.

  • DRH | May 24, 2011 | 5:10 pm

Moving Fowler out of 1st in the order seems like a good idea, based on today. Way to go Dex. Shows that the ‘trade’ suggested in the the other post would be terrible for the Rockies.

Lopez’ at bat in the 5th was downright terrible. Glad the rest of the guys came through big time.

I’d still like to see Nelson at 3rd.

  • Bill | May 24, 2011 | 5:18 pm

I was tied up until close to 4 but listed to the Rockies outscore the D-Back 7 to 1 while driving and back at the office. That part sounded good.

DLR getting hurt doesn’t sound good. Whatever they do they can’t rush him back. He is too important.
