Think I’ve seen enough of this team for a while…

May 30, 2011 | 8:00 pm | 30

…after Dex and CarGo collide in center field and drop the ball vs Dodgers tonight….final straw especially with a west coast road trip starting which usually spells doom.  And a  2-5 homestand(?)    etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

I’m not a believe-R anymore.   R-u?

Wow.  Not sure I’ll be paying attention much for a spell.

(before folks rail on me, those who know me know I’m the farthest thing from a fair weather fan)

Feel the same way, and I’m a die hard fan, but this is getting beyond 2008-2009 (beginning and 2010 proportions.

I see no light at the end of the tunnel….

  • matt | May 30, 2011 | 8:56 pm

Rockies have been incredible tonight with RISP.

  • robba | May 30, 2011 | 9:22 pm

All this flailing, and seriously stupid caps, too. Who could ask for more?

  • Aaron | May 30, 2011 | 9:38 pm

I’m a BelieveR to the bloody end. I’m a diehard fan from the first pitch in 1993. I don’t care how this team plays, I’m a hardcore supporter for the Rockies.

I’m also an Avalanche fan. Through their horrid seasons, I still watch every game. What they have taught me is to celebrate after a win like it’s never going to happen again. I’ve carried this over to the Rockies. If wins become scarce, then I will celebrate every win a little more.

We have had worse seasons and worse stretches, the Rockies will come out of it sooner or later. With 4 months left in the season, I’m not worried.

    I’m a loyal diehard fan, R you?

    Speechless

  • Mrgoofy | May 30, 2011 | 9:52 pm

I’m done. I can’t even bare to watch this train wreck. This team is not communicating with each other . The problem seems to be Tracy in my opinion, this team needs a manager with a backbone. A manager that has Fire inside.

  • miketober | May 30, 2011 | 10:03 pm

Aaron, I don’t think anyone here doesn’t celebrate every win. And we all bleed purple with every loss. I think rox4brains is talking about the emotional investment. You can only live and die with the team so many times before it becomes too crushing.

Every team occasionally fails to execute or makes a key mistake and loses a 1-run game. The Rox have done this about a dozen times in 1 month! At some point you just have to step back and spend your time and energy enjoying your family or the nice weather or getting a workout. That doesn’t make you less of a fan. I admire your stoic attitude towards Denver sports. But you shouldn’t question others’ loyalty to the Rockies. This is a forum where we vent our frustrations and do our bleeding, but most everybody here dies hard.

  • rox4brains | May 30, 2011 | 10:16 pm

Mike, thx, you got the gist of the post and explained it better than me! :-)

  • rockymountainhigh | May 30, 2011 | 11:56 pm

It’s gotten to a point where when I’m not able to watch the game due to working a second job, I check the score on my phone and once the other team gets ahead by 2 or 3 runs, I just turn off the phone due to the fact we score more than 3 runs about twice a month.

  • GARY | May 31, 2011 | 3:11 am

Best way to beat the ROX-walk the bases loaded and in no time the side will be retired.Felt the pain at same time last year and nearly bailed, but the turnaround may be starting.Lets be honest, the hitting has improved alot in a week, except for Tulo, and of course anytime there are runners in scoring position.Sorry I was drinking the purple koolaid again.Last year I didn’t put a fork in them until the horrible road trip after the break. This year we may be done before the break at this rate!

  • konaman13 | May 31, 2011 | 8:55 am

Is someone like Lou Pinella available? That would be fun to watch the bases being thrown around and someone to yell and actually show some fire inside, rather then sleepwalk game after game after game after game….

  • miketober | May 31, 2011 | 9:21 am

LOL konaman13, I was thinking the same thing except I had Ozzie Guillen in mind. Unfortunately he’s taken.

  • Cisco Kid | May 31, 2011 | 9:23 am

Let’s review some numbers that may be staggering:

If you take away the games played in April of this season, which we can attribute to the good karma of spring training at Salt River Fields, the Rox have been a horrific team since the last 2 weeks of last season.

They quit at the end of last season and lost 13 out of the last 14 games. So far this month their record is 8-20. That’s a combined record of 9-33, or the equivalent of one quarter season and a winning percentage of .214. The ’62 Mets weren’t that bad when the venerable Casey Stengel uttered those now famous word: “Can anyone here play this game?”

I realize that Tracy doesn’t hit into DPs and drop fly balls, but this team seems to have quit again, just like they did at the end of last season.

I have to agree with an earlier post that Tulo is becoming a coach killer. He’s a great player, but great team leaders find a way of lifting their team when get rough. Did anyone notice the picture in the Post on Monday of Tulo hanging his head in the 9th inning of Sunday’s game? Is this what you want to see from your team leader?

  • Dave | May 31, 2011 | 9:43 am

I’m sticking with the guys until the end. I really think the need to relax and have some fun. I also think they need to depend on their farm system a little more.

  • miketober | May 31, 2011 | 9:56 am

This may be an absurd question, but can these guys take some batting practice or work in the cages where they try to foul off as many pitches as possible? Fouling practice?

Watching other teams bat against the Rockies (and the Rox do this too in the occasional taco games) you see a lot of good pitches fouled off. Yesterday LA fouled off something like 35 of Hammel’s pitches. The better hitters on the Rox (Helton and Smith) are usually good for a few fouled off pitches. I’ve noticed that during Betancourt’s slump he has no problem getting an 0-2 or 1-2 count, only to have another 5 or 6 pitches fouled off. Can the Rockies work on prolonging AB’s by not trying so hard to get a hit but just trying to wear down the pitcher? I know it will lead to more K’s, but it will slow down the game for them drive up pitch counts.

  • Wayne | May 31, 2011 | 10:28 am

I’ve noticed that too Mike and think it is a great point. If you can’t raise a pitch count by taking pitches, at least foul the close ones off to prolong the at bat. Oh wait, I was taught that in little league. It’s called protecting the plate. Sorry to get sarcastic, you do make a great point Mike.

  • Rocky | May 31, 2011 | 10:49 am

Perfectly stated Miketober, thanks. While I still have the microphone, I want to say something I’ve held inside like dirty air from a stale burrito…LOSE DINGER! I HATE THAT PATHETIC, WORST MASCOT IN HISTORY IDIOT. HE’S EVEN WORSE THAN THE FILLY FANATIC. IT’S HUMILIATING TO HAVE A MASCOT LIKE THAT. I ESP. HATE THE STUPID ANTICS BEHIND HOME PLATE. TODD, PLEASE TAKE HIM ON A HUNTING TRIP, YOU’LL KNOW WHAT TO DO.

I guess he’s around to possible scare, I mean pacify the little ones during those boring Rockies losses. But, couldn’t there be another way?

    sorry

Check out MLB Trade Rumors to see updated Elias Sports Bureau rankings by league and position. Of note, Cargo is rated an A, Spilly and Smith a B and Dexter is a “none”. Tulo is the #1 rated IF in NL. Interesting list.

  • rox4brains | May 31, 2011 | 1:37 pm

Haha @ Rocky! I think comedy is often the best medicine in these cases!

Interesting to note, Matthew Leach of MLB.com just wrote he thinks the Rockies are still the team to beat in this flawed division. The story is linked via Facebook and the majority of the comment from fans, are of the “you’ve got to be kidding me!” variety. Seems frustrations are running high with the general fan base.

    The season’s only a third over, the season’s only a third over, the season’s only a third over, the season’s only a third over, the season’s only a third over,the season’s only a third over,the season’s only a third over,the season’s only a third over,the season’s only a third over,the season’s only a third over,the season’s only a third over. lol

Read Matthew Leach’s article on mlb.com, “Rockies still the team to beat in NL West.”

He says, “This is a team that should and will hit.”

    lol

Add in the record this year with those last two weeks and I believe the winning percentage is around .368??????

Two decent weeks out of the last ten played. ((((eyes opening wide)))

Things could get really ugly today in Kansas City!! Felipe Paulino is getting the start against the Angels.

  • miketober | June 1, 2011 | 2:30 pm

    Pooter, he’ll probably throw a no-hitter.

  • Pooter | June 1, 2011 | 2:33 pm

He actually looked pretty good in the first inning. The no-hitter is gone though Mike, he gave up a single to the first batter. He complete the first inning without giving up a run, that is amazing for him.

  • Pooter | June 1, 2011 | 3:00 pm

Felipe just got out of a bases loaded jam with 0 outs!! two errors committed to load the bases. The guy looks amazing right now!

  • miketober | June 1, 2011 | 3:42 pm

Through 6 innings Paulino has allowed 0 runs, 4 hits. The bum!

  • Pooter | June 1, 2011 | 3:52 pm

Wow! Felipe is the man! NOW!

I’m not seeing lack of talent from this team, i’m seeing a look of depression and defeat in their eyes and play. I can only guess each of them (with Tulo being the biggest of them all) are really pushing everything they can think of to break out of this. I know the talent is there for each of them (except for EY’s arm, don’t think i’ll ever be comfortable with that) but they need what Todd is showing at the plate – comfort with his swing, knowing that he will most likely foul off a few, put a few into play and get out a few times but that is no big deal. The others look like they are waiting to get struck out…i really feel that winning will be the cure and then they will loosen up and win some more…we just have to put together 3 or 4 wins in a row and then the fire will happen…

I predict that we will be looking back at these posts at the end of the season and realize that most of us (myself included) were WAY WAY too upset about what was going on – calling for Tracy to be fired, calling for CarGo and Tulo to be run out of town, calling for every CS player to be called up, etc…yes, we are losing some stupid stupid games but really – as we’ve seen with how many freaking singles we got the other night, how great our pitching has been here and there, how amazing our defense is mostly – that once it ALL comes together it will “click”…i still really believe that and know that is what keeps me turning the game on night after night and watching until the “27th out” to be sure i don’t miss that “click” so i can say, “i remember watching the ‘turning point’ when blah blah happened or so and so did this – that was the turning point”…

  • rox4brains | June 1, 2011 | 8:15 pm

    Good post jaredean. :-)

Ok, I’m watching the game tonight, I’m watching the game tonight! hehe

    Go Rox!!!!!

(just needed to vent, as it seems many us are needing these days)
