Second-round pick Carl Thomore was among 11 signings announced by the Colorado Rockies on Thursday. Thomore was a high school outfielder from East Brunswick High School in New Jersey. Baseball America reports the Rockies have also agreed to terms with supplemental first-round pick Trevor Story.
The Colorado Rockies squandered a 3-0 lead provided by a Troy Tulowitzki home run as Rockies pitchers were unable to hold the lead and, as has been the case all season, Rockies hitters were unable to add on or come through with another big hit.
The Colorado Rockies have acquired infielder Mark Ellis from the Oakland Athletics for right-handed pitcher Bruce Billings and a player to be named later or cash.

MLBTTradeRumors.com reports that Chaz Roe, a supplemental first-round pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2005, has been designated for assignment by the Seattle Mariners. Roe was traded to the Mariners in the offseason for infielder Jose Lopez. Roe, 24, is 0-5 with a 6.41 ERA for Triple-A Tacoma this season.
Struggling left-hander Tyler Matzek was given permission by the Colorado Rockies to leave low Class A Asheville on Sunday to return to California for about two weeks and work with the pitching instructor who helped him as an amateur.

In the 2009 draft, the Colorado Rockies had two first-round picks. With the 11th overall pick, the Rockies selected left-handed pitcher Tyler Matzek. With the 32nd overall pick the Rockies selected outfielder Tim Wheeler. Both were beaten to the majors by the 34th overall pick, supplemental first-rounder Rex Brothers, but Wheeler at least is headed in the right direction while Matzek is trying to recover the talent that led many to consider him the best high school pitcher in the draft.
Troy Tulowitzki scored all the way from first on a two-out single by Ty Wigginton in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the Colorado Rockies their first extra-inning win and first walkoff win of the season, 3-2 over the Chicago White Sox.
