Rockies officially release infielder Lopez

The Colorado Rockies officially released infielder Jose Lopez on Monday. Lopez was designated for assignment on May 27 after hitting .208 with two home runs and eight RBI in 38 games this season.

The Rockies will be on the hook for the remainder of Lopez’s $3.6 million salary minus the prorated major league minimum if he is signed by another team and placed on its active roster.
