Rockies farm roundup: Buckner sharp for Sky Sox
Triple-A Colorado Springs (L, 2-1 at Las Vegas, 10 innings, box)
Starting pitcher Billy Buckner allowed one hit in seven shutout innings. Buckner, who also pitched five shutout innings on June 19, walked two and struck out five. Center fielder Dexter Fowler was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Third baseman Ian Stewart was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The Sky Sox lost on a walkoff home run by Chris Woodward in the 10th inning.
Double-A Tulsa (W, 4-3 vs. Corpus Christi, box)
Starting pitcher Rob Scahill allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. Center fielder Tim Wheeler was 1-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base. Shortstop Thomas Field was 1-for-3 with a double. Reliever Daniel Turpen recorded his fourth save.
High Class-A Modesto (L, 5-2 vs. San Jose, box)
Starting pitcher Nick Schnaitmann allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings. Reliever Coty Woods allowed two runs in the ninth inning, snapping a streak of 35 1/3 scoreless innings. Right fielder Kent Matthes and left fielder David Christensen each doubled.
Low Class-A Asheville (L, 2-1 at Greeneville, box)
Starting pitcher Peter Tago had a second consecutive strong outing, allowing one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings. Tago walked two and struck out two. Center fielder Rafael Ortega was 2-for-5, his fifth straight multihit game. Ortega is hitting .522 over that span.
Short-Season Class-A Tri-City (W, 9-3 vs. Boise, box)
Center fielder Brian Humphries was 2-for-5 with a grand smal and a double. Second baseman David Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a solo home runs and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Tyler Gagnon allowed two runs (one earned) in 3 2/3 innings.
Rookie Casper (L, 7-6 vs Idaho Falls, 10 innings, box)
Third baseman Samuel Mende was 1-for-2 with a home run, an RBI and two runs. Second baseman Jose Rivera was 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Starting pitcher Daniel Winkler allowed one run on two hits in four innings.
