Rockies lineup vs. Royals, 7/3
The Colorado Rockies lineup Sunday against Kansas City Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar:
CF Carlos Gonzalez
2B Mark Ellis
1B Todd Helton
SS Troy Tulowtizki
RF Seth Smith
3B Ty Wigginton
LF Charlie Blackmon
C Matt Pagnozzi
SP Jason Hammel

Someone might want to tell Tracy that it’s ok once in awhile for a catcher to catch in a day game after a night. It is not against the rules. Iannetta had his best hitting game in weeks last night. I know it’s hot, etc. etc. etc. but there is a definite drop off in talent.
I don’t care how we play as long as we get a “W”. I’ve been waiting since April for both a Sunday victory and a series sweep of at least 3 games.
Hammel threw the exact same pitch twice to Cabrera on those homers. He just doesn’t have enough pitch diversity.
Another lackluster closeout to a series. Another day game loss. Common denominator in game day losses is usually Iannetta is sitting. Not sure its the difference maker, but its something. Maybe Iannetta needs to tell Tracy he wants to play? I don’t know.
Also, I have no faith that this rotation can win more than 2 games in a row. It just feels that any given day a pitcher can have a complete blowup like today.
Dead arm? Dead head? He’s throwing BP.
Nice. Preserving the double play, no doubt.
Just no killer instinct, team wide. Seems they are content winning 1 of 3 or 2 of 3. Sweeping a series is just not what nice guys do.
Friday and Saturday showed only that we can win games against lousy pitching, and amazingly, run up the score on lousy pitching. Today shows KC can do the same. Unfortunately we face a week of above average pitching on the road against better teams. And instead of getting out on a good note we get to see everyone start pressing at every AB.
Good point, though to be fair the Rockies also like to prove they can’t hit mediocre pitching either. lol
Ok. I’m happy, thrilled actually, to have a chance to br proven wrong.
Haha. Me too. I need to go out more often to do yard work. Good things happen. Nice to see a little fight.
Tracy/umps really killed the momentum there and gave the pitcher chance to warm up.
Just hopeless. Get within one and Belisle pukes up the place. Don’t know what Tracey was trying to do but he blew up the rally and then dumped Stults as well. How many hits does Matt have to give up to get replaced?
That was a circus clown appearance by Belisle.
Rockies are going to have to rally like they did on the 4th of July of 2008 though.
What a joke.
Tracy BETTER have a case for a protest or else apologize and point the finger at himself for this.
I HHHHHHHHHOOOOPPPEEEE this injury is not major.
Crap. Cargo is so awesome. Cannot afford to lose him for even 2 weeks. Please be okay.
What a miserable game, capped off by Cargo’s collision. None of these relievers are capable of going more than an inning, I thought Mortensen’s role was long relief… What a joke of a bullpen.
Geez. What a joke the pitching has been today.
What is this, a Little League game?
So Mortensen should be sent down so that Fowler will be called up? Keep Stultz on the roster?
Another guy I would add to the list as a possibility…. Willy Taveras! I hope Cargo isn’t out for a while, and when he comes back he can still perform and play well. Rockies really need him.
The one guy I do not want to see them be without for an extended time is Cargo, who’s reealy been finding his stroke in the leadoff role in addition to routinely spectacular defense. Here’s one play I wish he hadn’t even attempted to make.
Of course, Mortensen didn’t have to serve up a hit-me pitch that resulted in a ball to dead center, either. But he just served up a titanic three-run bomb to Hosmer, so maybe that’s his new normal. Combined with Hammel’s dreadful start and Belisle’s nightmarish inning, this indeed is one to forget for Rockies’ pitchers.
Let’s hope it doesn’t haunt us for the rest of the season.
Well if we do lose Cargo, at least O’Dowd and Tracy will have a new excuse for the most disappointing season in Rockies history.
prog- I think last season was just as bad, I had higher expectations then. This team is never going to have a better young core to build around, it’s just too bad they don’t seem to have any intention of taking advantage of it.
Need to reschedule all Sunday games.
There’s now a very good (well, actually BAD) chance we could well be 10 or more games back by the AS break. If Chacin is still hurting, theres a world of hurt waiting back East.
No we didn’t sweep but we won the damn series! This site used to be my favorite Rockies site because of the posters. Now I hardly check in because of the negativity. It seems like a lot of people on this site expect every player to be perfect all the time. Is Besisle not allowed to have a bad outing? Are hitters not allowed to go through slumps. I KNOW we haven’t been playing to our expectations but we still have half a season left. Games like today happen. We got embarrassed today. But you know what? We embarrassed them the two games previous. Let’s not make this into a negative site. Hope to talk to you guys soon.
Sorry ego, don’t see a whole lot to be positive about today. The Rockies are 30-41 since a great start. They are 6.5 games back, lost by eight today, and there are now health questions about 2 of the 3 best playes on the team.
So ego- I realize that as Rockies fans we are used to it, but should we all just happily accept mediocrity? Yes, I understand that we won the series, but taking 2 of 3 at home from the 2nd worst team in baseball just isn’t all that impressive.
Ego, I agree today is one of those games you just have to write off. Overall it was bad but there was some good mixed in. You’re right they won the series. Hec, I think this month they have won like 5 series, split 1 and only lost 2. Bottom line? They are still 6.5 games out. While they are winning these series they still gain no traction or even loose traction in the 1 loss in any given series.
Like Ryan said, “taking 2 of 3 at home from the 2nd worst team in baseball just isn’t all that impressive”. The Royals were just swept by the Padres. Even Tracy Ringolsby said we needed to win all 3.
Surely you understand some of the frustration translating to negativity? :>)
We are into July and the break. The adage that the pennant can’t be won in April or May but it can be lost is just as true for July.
I haven’t given up hope yet and still believe the Rockies will win the West.
I just can’t look at these games and say, “oh well, its just 1 game we lost” when its 6 out of the last 10 games that we’ve lost and we are pretty much deadlocked at 1 to 2 games under .500…in a division that looks winnable if only we can execute a modest win streak, when week after week its apparent that we can’t. 2 game winning streaks just won’t get it done.
