Rockies lineup vs. Brewers, 7/17
The Colorado Rockies lineup Sunday against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Shaun Marcum:
LF Carlos Gonzalez
CF Dexter Fowler
1B Jason Giambi
SS Troy Tulowitzki
RF Seth Smith
3B Ian Stewart
C Eliezer Alfonzo
2B Jonathan Herrera
SP Aaron Cook

Ok, I think Fowler is at his best in the 2 hole. Let’s see if that’s true at all.
I would still like to see Tulo bat 2nd with Smith batting cleanup.
Giambi cleanup.
Smith 2nd or 3rd.
Tulo 5th.
Write Forfeit on lineup card and spare us total embarrassment. Move on and get ready for game tomorrow with Hammel on the hill.
Tulo has that Post All Star swing. Not helpful.
Rockymountainhigh, I was thinking about your comments on Sunday baseball for this team. We inevitably see no Helton, no Ianetta and one other infield starter out of the line-up. I get the need for health and rest, but maybe just to shake things up, they could have played Giambi last night (give how bad Todd was on the field lsat night would not have been much different). Same with Ianetta. Its time to stop doing the same thing over and over. That is the definition of insanity. And yes, we are getting the exact same results.
So far Fowler is looking pretty good since the call-up. Cookie has thrown a lot of pitches, but if he can keep them tied through 5, I think we would take that as a success.
If you can’t go five innings you’re simply not a starter. Let’s move on with Cook. Long relief at best.
Anybody see anything different about Fowler at the plate?
Save for an occasional 2 weeks spurt of hitting everything….Tulo is very average player at the plate.
RocketMan, nope, and I’m disappointed about that….
Matt, ditto on Tulo. Big swinging bat, never when it matters. Contrast Tulo’s K with Giambi’s walk. He just gets too antsy to hit the Big One. We needed a single, he was swinging for the players lot behind the stadium.
they sure tried hard, didn’t they? Bless their hearts.
There goes Tulo pulling another LeBron James disappearing act when the game is on the line. He is just not a clutch player.
I am very exhausted with this team.
Tulo can’t even get you a good AB consistently–and it annoys the crap out of me that he always heads to 1st base assuming a pitch is a ball (even when right down the plate)
Doc, funny you say that because I was telling my wife lastnight that Giambi should have started against Greinke since he has really good numbers against him and Todd could play today. This team I’m sorry to say is not a good team. It’s time to get rid of Cook. Just get him off the roster. I don’t care how you do it just do it. Dex needs to go. He is not a MLB caliber player. This team needs help on offense, relief pitching and starting pitching. Tons of holes on this team! Oh and Tulo is really starting to piss me off!!!
I agree with you Matt on Tulo always assuming its ball 4. Its the same thing on every inside pitch as well no matter what the count is. He takes his eyes off the ball and turns away from any pitch slightly inside. Its like he doesn’t even want to see where the pitch goes. How do you learn if you do that?
It has to annoy the umpires too.
Just seeing this post game interview I really want Tracy gone. This team has given up on you
I know folks are frustrated but the comments on Tulo are just plain stupid. Sorry but that has to be said. He’s the top shortstop in the league and probably baseball. He makes hi-lite real plays EVERY night. He can carry a team and not many players can do that in any position. I mean WTH???
I think it’s time for Tracy to go. This mess is not really his fault but sometimes the manager just has to be sacrificed to shake things up…
Cargo is struggling again. To me it was a “no brainer” to bunt him in that situation.
Im not saying that Tulo isn’t a great defender. He is probably the best in the game defensively. But for most of the year he is a very average hitter. Sure he is great when he is hot. But when he is not, its a steady stream of mediocre at bats.
Matt, since he’s an average hitter please name the 15 shortstops you would prefer at the plate. He’s on pace for 120 RBIs right? name them….
He hasn’t been very clutch this year Elrodvt. I was praying for Giambi to end the game so it wouldn’t come down to Tulo. He’s trying way to hard right now.
Where is Ed the Ump when I need him? Back when Ed and I were kids the “book” said you play for the tie at home and the win on the road. As such I do not understand the failure to bunt the runner to third with no body out. The ONLY player on the team that should get that pass is Giambi and only because I doubt that he has bunted in the last ten years.
I swear first game of the series they looked terrific playing situational baseball, however today was just awful. Can we get a trade with Baltimore for Showalter?
egossage, you and I are NEVER going to agree on Dexter. Without Dexter the Rockies only win one game in this series. And yes I think it is a little extreme for ITR to dump on players after just one or two games. This season maybe gone, but there’s always next year, so lighten up some guys.
What is it about Dexter that you like? (besides his defense). The only people I know that like Dexter are on this site. He should be limited to defensive replacement. He can’t hit and he can’t steal a base. Dexter will never be a good MLB player. NEVER
I didn’t see the game although listened to a little bit on the radio so I can’t comment on today’s game but for those of you who want to get rid of Tulo, I’m guessing that there are about 29 other teams that would want him. Agreed he’s having a frustrating year offensively this year but he is on pace for 100 RBIs and 30 homers or close to it. And he’s the human highlight film on defense.
Frankly the two guys I would like to see go are Aaron Cook and Jim Tracy.
Wow!!! We need a whole latta help, but some small ball can really release pressure on a team from time to time also. Why wait for September for callups lets get it going now?
You guys are the quickest people to jump on a person after one bad game. If we should judge a player after one bad game, why don’t we just get rid of Cargo and Tulo right now. Have you guys ever thought that maybe the players are so afraid to make mistakes, as they will get called out individually by Tracy in the post-game conference, that they play poorly?
I never said we should get rid of Tulo. He is worth every penny paid just with his defense. When he is going at the plate, he is a great hitter. It just seems that over the last 3 yrs, he has 2-3 weeks where he is really hot, and the rest of the season he is underwhelming. He presses for home runs at the expense of quality ABs.
On Dex, he’s no Andrew McCutchen or Shawn Kemp, but I think he has a MLB future. He’s a good defender and has some good offensive numbers this year, especially clutch hits.
On Tulo, he pisses me off at the plate too. Sure he’s a great SS and we shouldn’t trade him, but does that make him above criticism? does that mean he is above improvement? Tulo has somehow racked up a lot of RBIs this year, but I do not see him as clutch at all. If I am an opposing closer I would be MUCH more fearful of a guy like Iannetta or Smith or Cargo than Tulo. But he is a great defensive player who saves runs even when he is not driving them in. I don’t think you can say he has the ability to carry the team – baseball is not set up like that, as opposed to basketball where a guy like Jordan can will a team to win. Tulo has had Jordan-esque games, but not on a regular basis.
I meant Matt Kemp of course.
Tulo can’t carry a team? Didn’t you watch last year??? Of course you still need a team effort but yeah a player can carry a team in baseball.
Why don’t you find some stats to back up your Tulo is an AVERAGE hitter contention Matt & others. I see he’s 8′th in the league in RBI’s. Hard to do that when you can hit with runners on. So, what is the stat you’re referring too?
My argument about Tulo is that he hasn’t been clutch at all this year.
This is from BaseballReference.com.
In Late and Close games he is batting .167 (8-48) with an OPS of .623. It seems every time he comes up and all we need is a hit he swings for the fences and pops up. IMO he’s trying way too hard to carry this team and it’s hurting us. I don’t think anyone said get rid of Tulo. A lot of people are just frustrated with his performance in high pressure situations.
I would honestly rather have Chris Iannetta batting in a pressure situation than Tulo or Cargo. Some players have a demeanor to them that makes them more successful in the late game situations, Tulo and Cargo simply do not have it. That is why this team needs a true cleanup hitter in their lineup before they will be a contending team. A Matt Holliday type hitter!! Jason Giambi is the only cleanup hitter on this team.
You know who should be this teams leadoff hitter? TROY TULOWITZKI!! He does not strike out, good on base percentage, and he could be just like his idol Derek Jeter.
