Rockies lineup vs. Braves, 7/20
The Colorado Rockies lineup Wednesday against Atlanta Braves right-hander Tim Hudson:
LF Carlos Gonzalez
2B Mark Ellis
1B Todd Helton
SS Troy Tulowitzki
RF Seth Smith
C Eliezer Alfonzo
3B Ian Stewart
CF Dexter Fowler
SP Juan Nicasio

Go get em Eliezer!!!!!!! But in all seriousness, this feels like a really BIG game for the Rockies. Time to go streaking!!!
A friend of mine had an extra ticket to tonight’s game so I will be back at Coors. But not much hope given that Atlanta is a very good fastball hitting team and Nicasio is the perfect pitcher for them to have a field day. Plus given our habits e will come back to earth and struggle to score even 2 runs. I’m just going to enjoy the ball game and forget about what the tram is doing wrong
Rockies win! First thing JT does is change the lineup.
well have fun rmh! I think we’ll win tonight.
He is too much of lets match this to this match up.
its 1 guy people. and one batting .220 at that. get a grip.
RMH – way to send out the positive energy. If we take the lead please leave the ball park immediately.
Another hit by opposing pitcher…
…and just like that Todd erases him.
That might have been the best defensive inning the rox have had all year…wow that was nice!
I was among those who thought Nicasio’s arm and skills might be better set for the pen. But his last two starts, at Coors none the less, have been steller. I am beginning to think we have a real live pitcher there. He has shown me a lot.
Now if the pen can hold things down! Go Rox!!!
Great outing for Nicasio. Wish the pen could have held it.
I know a lot of us stress over Street but…I have never had proper confidence with Lindstrom. He has a great arm but either is wild or gets too much of the plate. And now he has cost Nicasio a win. I am not sure I would not have left Brothers in to face Uglaa. The guys on pointed out that the pitch call on the 1st guy of the inning made no sense, why throw a guy with a slow bat anything other than your 97mph heater.
Alright maybe this alfonzo guy is costing us the game. Couple of bad plays now.
Rockies find new ways to lose games each series. That’s sort of the story of the season, isn’t it?
Why is Alfonso even playing? He brings no offense and is sub-par defensively. Also, the lefty-righty matchup stuff goes awry again.
Well, 6 outs to go and a tie game, with the middle of our line-up, against the best bullpen in the majors. Should be interesting and will tell us a lot about what this team still has left.
So a question to think about with regards to Alfonzo the catcher. For your back-up catcher, do you prefer someone with a live bat or someone who is simply a good game-caller and good defender? I have always thought you go with D for that position, but as I was frustrated earlier this year with our back-up C, Mr. Alfonzo called a bad pitch, had a horrid throw, and then a catcher’s interference. Not exactly confidence inducing.
Doctor C: Lindstrom seems to get hit harder and more regularly than Street. I assume his pitches, while much faster, have less movement than Huston. I hope we keep Street as a closer because watching Lindstrom would be even more stressful.
It seems like they don’t have a good handle on a backup catcher. Everyone who’s played this year hasn’t impressed.
Walk off!
CLUTCH HIT! OMG!
Hot damn, he did it!
I am so sick of hearing Goodman call Rockies players other players names. It happens almost every night. He just really annoys me.
What, you don’t confuse Spilly and Wiggy? LOL.
Dexter is really playing well in the bottom of the order. Great win guys.
Colorado Thistle – You don’t get to make another post on the same thread when you claim that we’ve already lost the game in the 8th. Fair rule I think.
Way to go number 5. You’re a beast
WOW and WOW!!!! With two outs they got it done! Dex puts the ball in play, they make an error, and CarGo proves why I still think he is the most exciting player in the bigs!!!! Still 4 games under .500, but this win showed me something. I fully expected them to pack in after losing the lead in the 8th and facing that tough of a pen. But wow!!! Lets see if they can wrap things up tommorow with a win (winning the series that way) and take some momentum to Arizona.
I still do not believe that the Giants are more than a solid team, and while 10 games (win column) is hard to make-up, its not impossible. We should know more after this trip to AZ (where they can and have played well in the past), LA (which just got this one against SF but is floundering) and SD (where the Rox play good but is always an offensive struggle). Win tommorow and 6-3 on the road trip and this team is a buyer with limited (and strategic…Spilly and Street perhaps) selling. Lose tommorow and go 3-6 and no one is safe!
Still believing, if just barely! Go Rox!!!
Great win tonight. My Wife and I could have used without seeing Betancort’s junk in the locker room during the Mark Ellis interview but it made a great night a little funnier!!! Go Rocks!!! No more Junk ROOTS!!!
agree … I have a hard enough time with Betancourt’s junk on the field
We won and we shouldn’t complain but I’ll complain anyway. Dan Uggla is hitting right-handers much better than left-handers this year. There was no reason to take Brothers out at that point. The conventional book was wrong in this case but Tracy did it anyway. It cost Nicasio the win but certainly provided us fan with a little Coors Field Magic.
I’ve already put my two cents in about not starting Iannetta. I’m sure that Tracy was giving Chris the night off before the day game (instead of the usual day off after the night game) but our catcher almost cost us the game.
Rockies need to win tomorrow or today’s game doesn’t mean a thing.
I’m not sure how a win, and gaining a game on both the division and wildcard leaders doesn’t mean a thing. But a win today sure would be nice.
I guess what I’m trying to say is Rockies need to go on a long streak. 2 in a row is a start, but even with a win today that would mean Rockies are 5-3 after the break. I don’t think that’s good enough.
Bill, I agree. Tracy is doing his best to lose games. Brothers should have stayed in the game. Shaefer probably doesn’t steal 2B with a LH pitcher looking right at him. Lindstrom never even glanced at him.
I agree, win, loss, win, win, loss, loss isn’t going to cut it. I’m on record for saying without a 10 game winning streak this team isn’t going to make up the ground. Baby steps first though. Lets get ourselves to .500 and I would prefer to do it in the next 4 games.
Was at the game last night. Exciting finish, some frustrating moments. First, Alfonso and Stewart together are a huge hole in the lineup. Smith got nothing to hit – when he struck out it was on pitches consistently off the plate. Atlanta knew it didn’t matter whether he got on or not, two outs were coming up.
Alfonso’s two throws on steals – both very late, both off target. Teams will be running when he plays.
Could our Sunday woes be because the backup usually plays? What’s our record with Iannetta in versus out? Pitch calling is suffering as well as hitting and defense on steals with Chris out of the lineup. All three backups so far this year are not major league quality.
Dexter is giving it his all. AAA seems to have helped one, and only one, of the two sent down there.
Re the Betancourt skin show: Root: whatever happened to the 7 second tape delay? Does remind me of a funny quote though: Jackson Browne, introducing bass player Leland Sklar at Pine Knob north of Detroit about 30 yrs ago: “A man more amazing looking clothed than naked.”
Smith looked bad at the plate. He was badly fooled on a few pitches. He’s allowed an off night occasionally. He should have walked at least once. But like you said, he needed to press with runners on because passing the baton to the guy behind him wasn’t a great option.
Yeah, now we really know Betancourt “up close and personal”…
Gives “Inside the Rockies” a totally new meaning! I thought the blooper was hilarious!
I missed the Betancourt show. Probably glad.
I think Stewart’s numbers since the most recent call-up have been decent. Except of course for lack of power. But where he makes the difference is defense. As has been stated above the infield defense in the 6th was incredible. All 4 infielders made outstanding plays.
To answer DRH’s question, I’m sure that at least part of our Sunday woes is because our backup catcher almost always plays Sunday as do other backups play as well. Pagnozzi had good offensive stats but I believe the team was 0-7 when he started.
Guys are backups for a reason. They usually aren’t as good as the starters.
The bad news is we have Arizona coming up, and Jim Tracy has a history of putting in a “light” lineup against them, probably because he thinks they are a poor team. That’s one of the reasons they are doing well – they got fat off the Rockies earlier in the season. We need to put our best foot forward ALL 3 GAMES and beat up on those guys.
